Battery Tie Down

:
2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
Not sure if this has been brought up before, so if it has forgive me. Does anyone know of any aftermarket battery tie downs that are made for the Mazdaspeed Protege? I'm looking for a better looking one than the boring original equipment. If not, I'll just have one fabricated. Thanks.

I haven't seen one. I doubt ther is since it uses the a stud on the strut tower. You can bend a second peice of threaded rod that you can get at the home depot and just bend it under the battery tray. Then you can use one of a hunder universal ones.

yea id like to know the same.....our stock ones are kinda blah! i want to dress up the engine more than it is....

Well, you need one of my yellow grounding kits then :D

I know, I'm terrible.

A little update. My mom is an engineer at a metal fabricating shop and I gave her the dimensions of the original tie down and she pulled a "government job" and made me up a nice straight, flat piece and had it powdercoat painted. It is in the mail right now, so when I get it, if I get a minute I will take a pic and show you guys, or else you can just see it at the next meet in person. Careful driving in this crappy weather!

Yea, I have already been to his website and contacted him. He is out of stock of them right now. Plus I'm getting mine for free...we'll see how good it comes out.

I just spraypainted a black piece of wood and put it under the optima and used the stock tie down.

i ran into the same problem with the tie down, and did the same thing as you with the wood, i cut it just a tad to short and was a coupke cm's off of between the wood and the tie down on the side closest to the strut well and shoved a rubber washer under it and now its all snug and tight. Just the wood isnt painted. So until someone comes up with production. This is what i have to deal with.

If you switch to an Optima, you can get one like mine or in a different style from eBay.

I really like that tie-down...except for the price. They are selling for about $100 on ebay.

Yea I sold it back in December. I am going carless so I can actually save some money and buy a condo next year. I get back and forth to work via the subway and my stress level has gone down lots since I started not driving everyday. It is kind of nice..no more road rage everyday! Have a good one.

that's cool...hey, if you ever wanna hang with us for a meet or F1 or something, let me know i'll come get you!
