battery terminal

Corrosion on my Negative battery terminal and Post has been a bit of an issue ever since i bought my 97 protege. i have been periodically cleaning both the terminal and the post with a wirebrush for said purpose. and now my terminal wont snug onto my Post which allows alot of corrosion crap to bluild up between the two, and then my car dont start without me fiddling with the battery. this is getting frustrating, is there some kind of shim i can put inside to make it tighter? or should i replace the terminal entirely.

i also read that i should have also been cleaning this with a baking soda solution, is this accurate?

i tried using that gel to coat the terminal to prevent this build up, but i dont think it was cleaned well enough. is there another solution to seal it after i cleaned / replaced it? like a spray or something?

go to autozone and buy some replacement terminals...they cost all of $4 and take minutes to fix.

i used a couple drops of motor oil on mine and i haven't had any corrosion on my terminals in the last year.....non

Na it wont, havent you ever had a car that leaks oil? My 91 protege leaks everywhere and nothing has caught on fire yet. At work we use a spray that eats the corrosion, then we put white grease, or antiseize onto the post, then put the terminal on ontop of it, tighten it up, and then cover the outside of the terminal with whatever grease we used, never had any corrosion come back on anything I have done. Ive had some messed up ones ive done.

Suggest you try this product. I've used it for a couple of years with no problems with corrosion ever building up on the terminals..

That stuff only worked for me if there was no corrosion to start. Has always came back if I cleaned it and sprayed it. The grease or antiseize works better for me.

thanks for all the replys, i got 2 new termianls, totally cleaned them with some industrial terminal cleaner my Step dad nabbed for me, and im good.... well better ne way.
