battery relocation

I am going to attempt relocating the battery to the trunk in about 2 weeks, any advice?

i wouldnt't do it. just because having all that wiring go throughout the car is dangerous. plus why do you want to relocate it anyway

it'll help with the weight distribution, but it's so minor that few ever notice it

Mine is in the trunk because I needed the space. On a front wheel drive car, it is a negative. The weight is much more practical over the drive-line.

yea but brian isn't yours in the trunk for your whole custom turbo kit. idk what benflagg has but i cant see him get any benefit from it

I did this to my Trans Am. It involved drilling some large holes in the trunk floor and routing 1/0 welding cable. It wasn't all that difficult, but the only reason I did it was the T/A is RWD. Since the MSP is not (and already has neutral handling), I wouldn't recommend it.

Its not for weight, its for fitment issues with my Perrin intake, and also the engine bay is just uber crowded. I was going to run the cables under the car. I may not do it though now that Im thinking about it. I might just trim the intake tube a little shorter.

I was thinking of making something so I could put it down in the front left were the cone filter for a CAI would go, NASCAR style lol....kinda.

Interesting, but a pain to get to.

Basically, All the + wires get connected to the + terminal of the fuse panel.

a 4awg wires runs down the left side drivres side under the carpet and into the trunk.

It's connected to the fuse panel as well.

The negative post from the 12v cell gets grounded (Well) up front to the frame and motor. (Starter and ignition perform better)

The Cell in the rear gets grounded to the frame back there..

FYI, I am the "Overkill Kid" I ran a 4AWG - to the rear as well with the +

They will both fit but it's an interesting time. The plastic kick and door sills come of easily, you will find lost of room under the hump. If there is a problem you should include a fuse in the line, but the fuse will have to hold daily starter abuse..

hmm..i wanna do this..i'd like to see some pictures..maybe someone has them..i'm more of a picture guy..plus, how'd you mount the battery?

I'll get some in a bit. The car is under the cover and I'm working on the Porsche so it's ******* dusty (Body Work Bondo and Shizz)

run fuse under the hood use 1/0 cabling probably a 17-20ft run to the back at 7$ a foot for cheap 1/0... also grounding.. and hiding the battery... alot of work I wouldn't do this unless your running 2 batteries

I relocated the battery in my DSM, mostly to get rid of all the clutter in the engine bay and doing so made it easier for maintenance. I went to an audio performance store and bought a splitter box that you can put your 1/0 wire into and install the other wires on the other side. It is a very clean install if you do it this way, just make sure the splitter isn't grounded or you'll be in for a surprise. The install itself is really simple and it doesn't require any special tools (maybe a heat gun for the heat shrink and a terminal crimper for a professinal install)
