Hi

This is my system as today

Infinity 652I
6-1/2" two way

Power handling: 60w RMS, 180 W peak
Sensitivity: 92 db
Frequency response: 54hz - 20khz
impedance: 4 omhs

Rear speakers:

Infinity Kappa 62.5I two way
6-1/2" two way

Power handling: 75w RMS, 225w peak
Sensitivity: 90 db
Frequency response: 45hz - 21khz
impedance: 4 omhs

Amp MRV-F540

MAX Power (at 14.4V,EIAJ)

Bridged 4 ohms : 350W x 2
Per channel into 4 ohms : 150W x 4
RMS Power (at 12V,20Hz-200Hz)

Bridged 4 ohms : 140W x 2
Per channel into 2 ohms : 70W x 4
Per channel into 4 ohms : 50W x 4
RMS Power (at 14.4V,20Hz-200Hz)

Bridged 4 ohms : 200W x 2
Per channel into 2 ohms : 100W x 4
Per channel into 4 ohms : 80W x 4

Now I'm ready for my subwoofer and amp to run my sub :)

I'm think I will go for Alpine, I will like to get JL but I don't know any store with 4 year extended warranty on the area that carry JL.

1st MP3 in NH me about the MRD-M300

MAX Power (at 14.4V,EIAJ)

Per channel into 2 ohms : 600W x 1
RMS Power (at 12V,20Hz-200Hz)

Per channel into 2 ohms : 200W x 1
Per channel into 4 ohms : 100W x 1
RMS Power (at 14.4V,20Hz-200Hz)

Per channel into 2 ohms : 300W x 1
Per channel into 4 ohms : 150W x 1

Will this be enought to run a 12 inch sub? or should I go for something with more power?

The "R" series from Alpine is the way to go for the subwoofer right?

What subwoofer should I get and what amp?

Thanks guys I think this is the last thing I need to get my stereo working as it should on my car :)

Alpine MRD-M300 sub amp: 300 RMS output at 2 ohms

Perfect match.

i just ran alpine for everything except head unit. I have the componet type r 6 1/2 in the front and all it took was a bit of custom fitting.
totally go alpine you will not be sorry at all.

thanks guys :)

1st MP3 in NH, if you have to rate the JL subwoofer equivalent to the Alpine SWR-1241D, not in price but in performance, between 1 to 10 (10 being the best) where will you place the JL and where will you place the Alpine SWR-1241D on the scale of 1 to 10?

I'm just trying to determine if is really worth it for me to be stuck with the Alpine product, just because the store that sell it has a 4 years warranty on it or if I should forget the 4 years warranty get a JL in another store without the extended warranty because I will be loosing so much in performance. :)

Between the Jl and the Alpine, the box will determine the sound more then the sub you use.

Thanks 1st MP3 in NH

Wow the box, I never thought that a box could make that diference, by the way what box should I go for? I guess is a custom box right?

How do I make sure that if some local shop is making me the box I'm getting every mesurement totally right, since the box is all that important

When it comes to 2 subs that close in perfomance the box can definitly make the difference.

I would make the box 1 cubic ft internally.

A Sub is usually all in the box you use. The box is 50% of your sound.

i beg to differ. the box is 100% of the sound. you can't change how your sub sounds by itself, but the box can be custom tailored to make the sub sound how ever you want it to.

it all depends on what you are looking for. if you want a nice smooth response and a smaller box, sealed is an easy start. but in my experience sealed boxes do not meet my expectations in the lower frequency range. a well tuned ported box can get nice low frequency response, and have a relatively smooth response curve, similar to a sealed box, just with better bottom end. i prefer to try alternative boxes that are much more complex. most people will tell you that band pass enclosures sound like s***. and most do. however most people have only heard 4th order bandpass boxes, and have never experienced 6th or higher order. i'm currently using a 6th order bp box, and couldn't be happier. high SPL in 2 frequency ranges. it hits all the low notes, and all the higher notes. but it's fairly large and heavy, so most stay away from them. on another note, if anyone on here has heard the bose acoustimass (i think that's it) surround sound, their sub (two 4" speakers, i believe) is in an 8th order box.

thanks got wake?

So with a 12" R series sub from Alpine I should go for alternative boxes?

What I want is sound quality :)

How can I get the right mesurements numbers for the box that will give me the best quality with this 12" "R" series sub from Alpine:

So I can walk in to the guy that make the custom boxes and say I don't care what you say this is what I want, I did my own research and I want it like this can you make it or no? Because when you don't know alot about the subject like me a sales guy a installer or a box maker will try to change your mind so they can sell you or install you what is best for them.

So got wake? please let me know how can I get those right messurements?

thanks again

if you want SQ, but not a lot of bottom end bass, go with a 1.25 cu ft sealed box. but if you want more bottom end, you'll want a ported box, i recomend using a slot port, rather than a round one, unless you use an areoport, a little larger than they recomend for ported, probably around 1.5 cu ft. tuned to about 25-27hz. i'm not at my home computer, so i can't find the optimum box with the program i use. you can try to design your own with the program i use. go to www.linearteam.org and download win ISD pro, alpha. you'll have to play around with it to get the hang of it, but it's a great program, and best of all it's free;)

QBA, how does your MRV-F540 sound? I just bought the MRV-F340 for powering the door speakers, I only needed the 55-65 watts that the F340 gives.

I am planning on an Alpine MRD-M500 and Type R subs when I get the money. There isnt much of a price difference between the M300 and the M500 if you want the extra power. I am also going for looks and the outside of the M500 is identical to the MRV-F340. I would take the advice of all the people here and go with all Alpine in a custom box, thats what I plan on doing.

ELEmental59437 I actually bought the MRV F340 2 weeks ago and the sound was great but on my CDA-9815 head unit (Which is everything I can expect from a Head unit) the sound distorts after the volume was over 30 which is really loud, well I paid extra and I just got yesterday the MRV-F540 and the sound is stronger but still distorts after 30 but for some reason even is distorting after 30 on the head unit I think that the volume is higher so the head unit doesn't display any number higher than 35 not matter how loud it is, so what is 30 for the MRV-f340 is not as loud as 30 for the MRV-f540.

One of the good things of the F540 apart from delivering 80 watts is that it has an extra crossover build in which can be use if you have components on the front :)

I finally listen to the installer, because he always told me that it was distorting not because the amp but because the speaker can't handle the bass, so once I get the amp and sub that should take care of it :)

ELEmental59437 why should I go for the MRD-M500 when the SWR-1241D (12" R Series Sub) has only 300 RMS and the M300 amp has 300 watts as well so is the perfect match.

I'm not telling you I'm just asking because I'm new at this and I wonder if I will need the MRD-M500 amp that I think has 500 watts when my sub will be only 300 watts?

got wake? thanks for the link :)

I got the sofware installed but have not clue how to use it :(

Can you give me a hand to input the specs of the SWR-1241D sub or tell me what to do to get the software to work?

thanks :)

start the program, go to the top left corner. it's under one of the tabs like "file" "edit", etc. click on driver editor, i believe. or database editor. then either make a new file for your sub with all the parameters you have, or edit the one they have on file. then save and select new project with your sub. then pick how many and what type of box. in the big window i use maximum SPL graph. then fool around with box size and tuned frequency;)

Unfortunitly wake, the program has nothing for alpine subs and alpine doesn't have 1/2 the properties listed the program wants. I all ready tried it at the beggining of your conversation.

Thanks 1st MP3 in NH, if Alpine has such a good sub how come it doesn't have 1/2 of the properties listed on the program?

So since I can use that program 1st MP3 in NH do you know how can I get the precise measurements so as I said before I can walk in and say to the guy this is precise what I want.

No one I have ever seen has had all those properties listed. Ypu may have to call to get the ones not in the manual.
The easiest thing to do is find out what Alpine reccomends for a box design and size and go with that. It may not be the best for what you are looking for but it will still be damn good and what alpine thinks many people will like.
