Basic setup ?s... NO2 on a P5

u can blow ur engine with or w/out turbo or nos it all depends how ur engine block is set-u.

get a bullet proof engine if ur planning on doing this.

So guys, I'm the new pig, got me a 50 shot nitrous kit with purge, care to let me knwo where to get a fuel cut off for the p5 in case of the stock pump starts leaning out?

Also more info on exactly when you spray, assuming it sprays when yer WOT, you just shift into second, flip the WOT activate switch, and floor it, shift to third, floor it, shift, floor eh? lol

I'm running clutch, flywheel, header, 2.5" catless exhaust, cold air intake, and most importantly when your car has more than 20hp over stock, Motor mounts! Any suggestions you guys have? plan on running 50 shot, may renozzle it to 35 tho

also, any update on the colder spark splugs I should get? I'm running platinums and need to change em

Im running a NX 50 shot and even when using the nitrous the motor runs extremely rich, all the way green on my guage!! You shouldnt have anything to worry about with the motor leaning out. Ive been through alot of nitrous and had no problems or noises.

Im timing my p5 tonight if it stops raining, hoping to hit high 15s. I wish i lived wherever u live, whoever hit the 16.4 on a stock motor, here in kansas I can only manage a low 17 on stock motor (bc of crap air).

Congradulations on the new Nitrous Kit...What type of kit was it? I didn't see..

I love my purge..I got it runnin over the winshield now...

You REally don't have to worry about stock pump giving out...but it is usefull to have fuel pressure cut off switch..I have one!!

I spray in every gear...But not to much in 1st & 5th...

1st gear causes my tires to spinnnnnnnnn like crazy...but i shoot in 2nd through a little of 5th..but by 5th gear..i already know who won!!:D

What do you mean you are runnin clutch? You mean aftermarket? If so that's good but not necessary..I have had my stock clutch w/ really no problems shooting unless i am shooting in 1st gear...

I got a motor mount (kart boy)..it's pretty good..but i am still gettin some wheel hop..

About the plugs...NEVER USE PLATINUM PLUGS...they will explode..or foul up really easy..and has lead to damaged engines..that's why it specifically says in any manual..or install book...NEVER US PLATINUM PLUGS!

I am running 1 step colder plugs...i have the mp3 ecu..so i have the advanced timing...and always fill up on 93...but sometimes..94octane..but gas cost so much now...

Good luck and keep us up to date..i like to know how other protege's are kick ass using nitrous!!

Yeap..the p5 runs really rich...I have an a/f meter and whenever i shoot it reads all the way into the green...

It started rainin like crazy here in Jersey...I hit the 16.4 mark...was little difficult..but practice makes perfect!! Got to know how to drop it and not to bog down the car...not to mention..i have a custom ram air kit...Really kicks ass when i am on the highways...

I figure w/ a 50shot stock p5..you should easily be into the 15's...but you need to practice...

w/ a 75shot...you in the 14's...

I figure w/ my setup..I should easily be in the 15's..but i am shooting for 14's...(high of course)..

Chas

P.S. Glad to see we are getting a better flow of people goin the nitrous route!!

well I pieced together the nitrous kit myself, the purge kit is purely Zex, but I ask about teh spark plugs to hopefully get someones exact specification number? Maybe? Also, about gappage, I'm used to buying a plug and putting it in, I take it with nitrous you need to buy one of thosel ittle gapping tools and make it .35? =) or whatever number it is, .035... Obviously I learn just enough to get me by as you can see.

more on the kit I got for you people interested, it's a real never heard of brand that made the bottle "compucar" and the nozzles and wet kit itself is zex.

One last question, about the bottle, and filling. The bottle I heard you can paint it, all but the label? apparently it's illegal to paint over the bottle label cause it has pertent data for filling stations, this true? The compucar bottle is plain stainless steel, I plan on airbrushing. Then, do you guys have any good resources to find local nitrous fill stations? Anything to look up in the phone book? Is medical grade nitrous oxide the same? lol

Test all solenoids before actually using the system...It's cool how you pieced together the kit..About he plugs..yes..gap to .35...and i have ngk's..part# bkr7e-11's (1 step colder)

About bottle..most refill stations will NOT fill up the bottle unless you have a label for it...So make sure you get a sticker..

Yes..I have a good resource to find local nitrous fill stations..

go to nos home page...they have listings..of refill stations...you can do the same w/ zex..and other companies!

Yes medical grade is the same..i am running medical grade...

you guys have been a real help, I appreciate it,
Also, thanks I found a fill station 1.17 miles away from my house!

i have mine gapped to .044, whats the diff between that and .035?

medical grade nitrous is PURE nitrous, while industrial adds a deterent to get high using it (and leaves a 'mark' in your engine oil...)

Basically you want to gap to .035..b/c that's what NX told me..They said by leaving them gapped to large..may cause the nitrous to blow out the spark..

plus everyone i talked to said to gap .035..

Chas

That might help...Also are you running autolite plugs?? Everyone including NX says to use NGK's...

Chas

part# NGK BKR73-11's..I believe Spoolin has them on his site!!

I think you mean

BKR7ES-11 right? that's the closest part number I can find

My Mistake..typo...the 3 is on top of the 3 button(my mistake)!!

Equinox...I believe that it's actually BKR7E-11's....there is NO S in there...I am not sure what the s stands for maybe the same?

lol

Chas

Alright did a little research on NGK plugs and found the following.

Stock NGK plugs for Protege 2.0, listed by plug type:
all the gaps are set to 0.044

Standard: BKR5ES-11
V-Power: BKR5E-11 <-- True Stock Equipment on Proteges
G-Power Platinum: BKR5EGP
Laser Platinum: PFR5G-11
OE Laser Iridium: IFR5E11
Iridium IX: BKR5EIX-11

notice how all our OEM plugs are of the range type '5', or 'hot type, just change the part number to 7 and you have a cold type plug. As suggested, the OEM plug, only cold, is:
BKR7E-11 (Useful P/N: NG1283)

all that research to find the same thing, I like to know why though =)
