Badging, air intake ?'s

Hi all, new member and fairly new P5 owner. Bought a white 2002.5 P5 around St. Patty's day and absolutely love the car. Frickin blast to drive, especially compared to the Ranger I was driving before. Anyway a couple of questions. My P5 has TypeS badging on it and I'm not sure if this is OEM badging or if the previous owner got this badging somewhere and placed it on. Has anyone heard of a P5 TypeS before? If so what does the TypeS give you?

Also, a Q on air intake. I've done a little reading around here on the CAI and SAI intakes, and have seen the eBay intakes mentioned often. I'm probably going the SAI route, and was considering the eBay SAI's, but was wondering if there is any particulars I should be looking for? Is there a quality difference between the $15 intakes and the $30 intakes? Is there a difference in the cones that I should be paying attention to, or should I just get the cheapest from a good seller? Also are these as easy to install as they seem? Is is just as easy as removing the old box and putting the new intake on?

TIA for the help!

with that said...sorry for laughing but the previous owner was a ricer there was no type-r protege5 they only stick with hondas and our cars are not honda cars lol

about the intake i have no idea. do your research though and see the different options. read around and youl get a better idea of stuff.

i know it is...there was never a protege5 type or a special model which is what i stated i beleive. just saying someone put a ricer badge on the car. the only "editions" mazda has is mazdaspeed versions of cars. or limited productions i beleive.

Thats what i was thinking....why the hell would someone do this....now to try and get the badge off, any tips for that :)

The badge is going to be applied with glue, most likely. On a warm summer day while parked in the sun you can take some dental floss and cut the glue behind the badge.

The get some adhiesive remover and get the remaining stuff off. Then wash & wax your car.

As for the intakes. I have had both the ebay SRI and now have an INJEN CAI I can't tell the difference between the two from the drivers seat.

Either way get what ever looks the best to you. As for the filter I'd measure the end of the tubing and order a quality filter like K&N or Accel or something along those lines.

You car wouldnt happen to be a Yellow P5....i memebe a while back there was a thread with a yellow P5 on Ebay from a dealer and it was being advertised as a Type S or Type R... Which is odd becuase Mazda dosnt badge thier cars with S or R only "Mazdaspeed" is the limited line.

Dont forget MP3...

Nope, it's white. I'm pretty sure it wasn't on eBay. The carfax report only had one owner.

Thanks for the help!

If you get an eBay SRI you will most likely have to cut the pipe maybe a 1/4 of an inch. EBay intakes tend the rub on the master cylinder. Other than that there is no prob with an offbrand intake. All you really pay for is the name. My eBay intake has a round filter not the cone. It is similar to the HKS intakes. I love it. The car sounds 10x better and has a little more power.

I think I remember seeing a TypeS P5 on ebay, all riced out. It was about 6 months ago, wonder if it is the same one. I think it was yellow, but I could be wrong.

Welcome new 5 owner. I just got mine around the same time as you. I love mine. I have noticed my badging is different than most I've seen, as well. Mine is a smaller rectangle with the lettering "MP5" and in smaller letters "powered by MAZDA". I have only seen the "Protege5" on others I have seen. Possibly a difference between years. Mine is an '02. I also have the MAZDA emblem embroidered into the front seats. I love those. You can see them in my signature pics.

As far as intakes, I just put my Injen CAI on, and it sounds great, but no noticable difference in HP. Have to get my exhaust on. I plan to get the Magnaflo CAT in the next week or two. Should be able to tell a difference then, I hope. Then, on to headers. Can't wait to here the low growl!

Actually, the S was red. It took nothing to get it off, whoever put it on even left a little of the sticker backing on part of the T on one of them (there were 3). Damn things just peeled right off, left no marks on the finish, which is good.
