2003.5 Titanium MazdaSpeed Protege
I just recently purchased my 2003.5 Titanium about 2 weeks ago and my local 4-H club was washing cars for a fundraiser and they decided to was mine with the tire scrubber. Well as you already figured out it doesn't look good they put so much effort into it that they went through the clear coat and scratched the paint and my windshield and also one of my rims. I am trying to figure out what to do about they are not openly willing to pay for the damages. I have heard if claimed on my insurance my premium will go up. Anyone with some background in this type of stuff please help. Thanks.

thats' why i wash my car myself. . . .why subject your baby to a bunch of peopel who don't care about your car. . . . .IMHO

hope everything works out for you though

oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. I would think that they would be liable for it, unless they had signs up saying all damage is held responsible by owner or something.

Like Traito said, its good to wash it youself. I NEVER let anyone wash my cars.
Well, unless they are 34+/24/34 and wearing a bikini or nothing:D

hmmm well try the obvious, the strongly worded letter of threat

in the mean time, have you tryed polishing your car? that should eliminate one of the problems, if they have only damaged your clear coat....

lets see your alloy will need a sand back and re paint, and as for your windscreen? you have got to be kidding me right??? umm if they scratched your windscreen they have ****** up big time.......

most insurance companies in australia have a thing where you get a replacement windscreen excess free with out affecting your next premium!! maybe you could try this? just throw some rocks at it for good measure mention about some kids throwing rocks of an overpass nearby, and hey presto new windscreen.... now thats probably the way to go on the cheap

it's funny, i drive by these "fund raiser" car washes all the time and i wonder, just what kinda damge can these kids inflict...i have the answer! go see the insurance copmany, how can you possible sue the 4-h club? what are they gonna give you...some sheep? good luck man!

I'm sure the 4-H club has some sort of insurance that would cover the costs. I would report it to your insurance company, and let them know exactly what happened. Have them haggle the 4-H club for payment.

seriously? They used a tire scrubber on your whole car? No. NO NO NO NO NO! Listen, im from Canada and i dunno what the 4H is, but I know that they HAVE to pay for damages. I worked at a detail shop and the moron owner used paint thinnger to "buff" out a scratch.. what a fuckass. This guys 1981 BEAUTIFUL mercedes Benz, with the interior plastic from the dealer STILL on it, has a ****** hole in the paint now. My boss tried to deny it all, but i went up to the guy and said look, he ******* paint-thinned your car. Sue him because that is ******* bulls***. He did and now i dont work there anymore, but lets just say that POS garage is shut down.

If all else fails, you can always go postal.

Damn, that is not right. I would contact their chapter or district and see what can be done. If you didn't sign a paper saying that any damage is your liability then it's legally their responsibility to pay for repair, not-for-profit organization or not. I wouldn't just lie down and break out the polisher - they have to fix it - regardless if the little kids were ignorant to the repercussions.

Wow that really sucks man. Did you not notice they were using a tire scrubber on your paint? I would say you will probably end up paying for this. Your alternatives?

1) sue 4H...ha!
2) file a claim and raise your premium.

So in actuality you are paying for a lesson learned. Never let other people wash your car and for s***'s sake don't use a tire scrubber.

Are you sure your insurance will raise you premium? My wife has had 2 accidents (one with the WRX  ) and allstate has not raised the premium yet. She was told on the next accident our premium will go up $120 a month. So if you dont feel like pursuing the 4H club call your insurence and ask some questions. Getting people to pay for soming the dont want to can be a pain in the butt.

My bosses son ran into my car with a bike put two dents and scraches all over the place. He said he wont pay for it. Now I have to wait till my court date in december. I dont know what kind of evidence you have against the 4H club but make sure you can prove it was them. You might end up losing money if you pursue this legaly...

i organize car washes for lil kids.. good experience for them... and i watch over them and make sure they know the difference between wheel and body sponges...

now what happened here is just BS... even if it's non-profitable, either it was free of charge, or for donation, it's still a service rendered.. i'd do whatever you need to get what you deserve... @ least a new clear coat is needed...

How ironic is it that 4H would use a car wash as a means of fund raising. Doesn't washing cars use precious water and introduce chemicals into the environment? If I remember correctly, 4H is supposed to protect the environment. It's like a group of vegetarians having a barbeque. Hmmm....something to think about.
