Baconbitz's 1997 240sx Project/DD

ka-t.org

the KA is a great motor just doesn't get enough respect www.turbo240.com will make you into a KA lover.

From what I have seen the KA is food for around 400whp (give or take some depends on the motor) before things usuall start to break, which is usually the ring landings or just the complete piston. Shot peened rods, new pistons and new head gasket and you can push over 500 at the wheels.

Not that the SR is a bad motor, it is a good motor too. Just overrated since it is JDM cool.

im pissed ams stopped makin the manifold for the ka =( i wanted one so bad when i had my 240 setup i jus didnt have the money to swap my complete setup to support it.

Very Sweet! My cousin has a 98 240sx SE in a similar color. The body of his is stock at the moment and has the original factory paint. It getting the wonderful truck motor KA24de replaced by a tuned VQ35de from a wrecked 350z.

Ps: Don't bother with original Kouki JDM rear valances, they are made from very brittle plastic and don't hold up well. Plus what people are asking for them is insane. I got a set of reproducitons from Raceonusa made from flexible fibreglass. They are identical in look but much stronger.
A friend of mine has a set of new ones he wants to get rid of for $100 so I might grab those. I'm pretty sure they are fiberglass but not positive.

I would update the thread but there isn't much to say. I'm in Jersey right now and far away from the car so I can't work on it. Good news is I got my motor to the house the night before I came up here. 130k on an auto trans KA and it's the cleanest KA I've ever seen. I should get that in when I get back to Atlanta.

You have to do the S15 rear conversion:

Congrads man, as a former 240 owner I'm jealous. he 97-98 ones are really nice in style and gives you some nice possible upgrade options. For instance, you can get the JDM 6 speed tranny that came on the S14 over there :)

Ah, the six speed. Oh how I wish I could have it :). Unfortunately for me it is just 6 gears stuffed into the same casing and thus is weaker. We shall see though, we shall see.

It's cold as hell in Atlanta right now (27* when we pulled the motor, hasn't gone above 30* all day) but I am still working on the car. So far my friend and I have gotten the old motor out, gotten the tranny off that motor and found out that the clutch is shot to hell. I finished drilling the pilot bearing out of the new motor and I'm waiting on my other friend to get home so I can grab the air compressor and impact gun so we can transfer the flywheel. Should be back up and running tonight, pictures will be up soon.

^That is not cold! haha.... Yea it is. Try working on a car in the teens.

I'm about too I think :). Temp keeps dropping and the sun is down. Thankfully the only work we have to do outside is drop the motor in, then we can push inside and hook everything up next to the space heater (nana)

Here's some pictures from what went on today. No pictures of us actually working unfortunately because it was to cold to stop and grab the camera. I guess something is better than nothing though. Hopefully I can get some rolling shots tomorrow :)

s*** motor out of the car finally

That clutch is nasty. Looks just like the one I just took out of a 97 M3.

Got the motor to start today. Starter was dead too so I replaced that. Unfortunately I didn't get it ready to drive though and I'm leaving for Tampa in the morning so its gonna have to wait to be finished for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to get back up to Atlanta for MLK Day to get it running so I can start driving it. By that time I should have some money back from the guy that sold me the car so I can get some HID's (stock low beam bulbs are dead, time to upgrade. lol). We'll see what happens I guess.

Alrighty guys, no new pictures but I have an update.

The car is basically ready to go, everything is on and its begging to be driven but I have a slight problem. No spark, and questionable on fuel as well. Don't know why I don't have spark but we are working on it. As for the questionable on the fuel we can smell it when we crank the car, there is pressure in the lines, but the fuel pump doesn't sound or feel like its running.

Tomorrow the car is getting towed down to a shop a buddy of mine works at. I simply don't have time with school to keep driving back and forth between Atlanta and Florida trying to get this thing running. So, they are gonna figure it out for me and get it patched up so I can get driving :) Not the way I want it to happen (I really enjoy wrenching on it) but its the way it needs to happen right now.
