Just went to install reverse camera into my sons 2014 Mazda3 manual 6-speed (doesnt have an OEM one). I have done this on lots of other vehicles. Removed tailgate trim and physically attached camera. Put car into reverse to confirm where backup lights wiring was. Backup lights working. Identified cables to bulb and unplugged. At this point I have not cut ANY wiring anywhere on the car. Just unplugged and replugged the cable at the back of the reversing bulb. Now no reversing lights. I have spent 3 hours on this trivial thing now and it's driving me nuts. There is no 12v to the light fitting when the car goes into reverse - so no lights. Fuse and globes are ok - and other itesm on that fuse (such as number plate) work just fine.
Could it be the world's biggest coincidence that the backup switch decided to fail just then?
I have tried diagnosing the switch but not quite sure where it is. The one that seems to be on the right place on the transmission (lower left) has 4 wires connected - which doesnt seem right? Also has a totally different connector to the ones I see by looking up Mazda spares for that year. Of course, it being Christmas in Oz there is no chance of getting anyone to look at it for at least 2 weeks
Questions:
1. Where is the backup light switch located on the 2014 Manual trans mazda 3?
2. Does the switch have 4 wires or 2?
3. Assuming bulbs and globes are ok is there anything else that could stop the backup lights working?
To reiterate I have not cut ANY wiring on the vehicle (that was to be the next step to splice in the camera but am not starting that until we sort the backup lights).
All other lights work fine.
Thanks for any help and insights.
