So I recently lost my main set of keys and have been unable to find them. So I’ve needed to use my second key fob, which doesn’t work. I have to manually unlock and lock the car with the key from inside the fob. My car starts just fine with my fob in my packet or on my backpack, it doesn’t need to be held up to the button or anything like that. I’ve changed the battery more than once to no avail. Does anyone have any idea how to fix my fob so I can use it as intended?

I don't think this is the root cause but I have no other idea.
Try to put your fob into sleep mode and wake it up again.
