Backup camera adjustment

Has anyone adjusted the backup camera?

When we got the cx9 new, I could see straight back without seeing the upper part of the bumper. Now it seems the camera lens is pointing down just a slight amount so I can see the outline of the top of the rear bumper on the bottom of the dash display screen.

Could opening and closing the tailgate effect the movement of the camera? If so, is it something I can adjust with too much disassembly?

For the record, I always use the autot button when closing the hatch, I never manually slam it shut.

TIA

You should be able to see the top of rear bumper thru the backview camera. Mine is like that also.
Otherwise, it needs to be adjusted.
To do so, you probably need to take the garnish piece off. To do that, you need to pull the inside trim of the rear hatch off so that you can access the bolts that hold the garnish piece in place.
Maybe you don't need to take the garnish piece off at all. Maybe you can access the camera once the interior trim of the hatch is off.

Thanks guys.

As it is, it still gives me a full view with the top of the bumper but before it was just slightly higher.

It hasnt moved any since I noticed the positon change so I'll leave it as is unless it gets worse.

Thanks

i like the back bumper in view, lets me know when i'm about to smack something :D

wish the front had something too!

I plan to install ultrasound sensors for the front (triggered by brake light).
Can't make the final decision just yet.
Need to take down front bumper and drill holes on it....

Those would be so sweet! Let me know how it goes.

Speaking of adjustments for the backup camera, has anyone rigged more powerful reverse lights so the backup view is useful at night?

Not yet.
My problem is that the kit I found on eBay has the ultrasound triggered by brake signal only,
which does not make much sense. It should alse be AND-ed logically with VSS signal so
that the ultrasound is activated below 5mph and the brake signal.
I don't need ultrasound signal beaming forward at highway speed while I tap on the brakes....

Until someone creates a kit that makes sense, I will pass.
