Backfire on hard launch?

So, I drove my MS3 off the lot 5 days ago (i.e. 100% stock,) and I'm just starting to get used to it, and start to see what it can really do. Twice now when doing hard launches, when shifting from first to second, I'm hearing what sounds like an explosion or like the undercarriage of the car is hitting something. I'm assuming it's backfiring. Is this normal? Do other people see this? The first time it happened it scared the crap out of me cause I thought I had hit something. The second time was even louder.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks!

I backfired a few times when launching hard with my turbo xs 50/50 (rich between shifts), and now I backfire a lot with the greddy type s (richer between shifts). I am assuming you can still run rich between shifts causing a backfire, even when the vehicle is completely stock

Just my $.02, but you might want to consider avoiding hard launches this soon.

Man, ya got that right. Took a real effort not to approach redline or otherwise beat on her the first 1,000 miles. Slightly more rowdy the next 1,000 miles. At 2 kilo miles I figured she was as ready as she'd ever be. Wow, what a hoot.
