Back Fire??

I recently have been getting a back fire either while shifting from 2 to 3 or, also from 3 to 4 but its just one small pop nothing like a gun shot. And also if im going down hill to where i can take my foot of the gas and still maintain a speed of 35 while in 5th is has a deep gurgle. I have straight headers (heated wrapped) to glass back exhaust so i dont know if its my exhaust casusing this or how could i find out if im running to rich?

I would say exhaust I had a cheapo cherry bomb turbo on my old pontiac after about 3 months of running the piss out of it it started doing the same thing especialy when I forced it to downshift ( it was an auto) it will just get worse if that's what it is eventually it will even spit little fire balls out. If your not having anyproblems I would start with the muffler. If you like it then wait a month or so and nobody will tailgate you

its the exhaust in combination with the rich protege. Enjoy the gurgles and pops. My setup is 3 inch exhaust to a summit racing 12" glasspack and finished off with a 3" Borla muffler. I'd love to hear what your exhaust sounds like with the glasspack only.

hey man just get you a muffler welded on and it will make a big difference, it will quiet down the car quite a bit...

and im running the stock manifold with a 24 inch glass pack with no muffler and it sounds sexy...like a subaru :)

lol o i love they way mine sounds but it is quite noisey inside while driving but that really doesnt bother me but i also will post a vid of mine and ill try and take one while driving so hopfully everyone can try and hear the gurggling im talking about

^^ I would love to see them I have my stock header on still with catless midpipe and 2.5" jic magic catback and I backfire sometime's.Gonna be doing no header this spring so should sound nice.

I hope you mean getting a header and deleting the pre cat if you plan on running it straight off the head id be planing on a new motor or head if your lucky :) it reminds me of the scooter I built it had a free flowing glass pack on it it gurgled and shot flames out when it back fired I miss it.(to any ragging flamers it ran a 10.2 in the 1/8 mile so faster than a stock protege) basicly if you like it then keep it the way it is if you don't buy a new muffler and itl fix it id love to hear a 40 series flowmaster on a protege I bet it sound amazing
