Axle Help????

Alright guys I believe one of my axles are bad and am looking to replace it. I've looked into it before and tried doing some research on here about where to get one and just never had a clear answer. I know the MSP has different axles than the regular protege, and have read how people have tried to use autozone axles and they have not worked ect.....can someone tell me where to go to get the correct ones? (besides the stealership or having them rebuilt) Also what is the exact difference in the MSP vs. Protege axles? Spline number on either side? Length? or just bigger over all to compensate for the "power" increase over the stock protege?....I can't seem to find the threads explaining while I search

No I have not, thank you....so this is saying the MSP and protege have interchangeable axles?

The only difference is the MSP axles are 24mm thick vs the stock 22mm. Everything else is the same they are interchangeable. Apparently Napa has the correct 24mm axles cheaper than OEM.

Just a heads up you may want to invest in a bfh before starting. Mine was a pain to get out

Damn the bad luck....Suspension/ axles ect is always a pain. Everything is rusted, torqued high, and it always seems to need to be worked on when its cold..SOB

I'm not even entirely sure if it is the axle, could also be a ball joint...This car has been the biggest pain in my @ss out of all of my 12 cars I've had, especially when it comes to suspension. So many noises/clunks/vibrations..The car currently has a "clunk" type noise from the passenger front corner and also a lighter suspension noise (rattle sound almost?) over small cracks/ bumps in the road from the same passenger front. I am not sure if it is the ball joint or bearings in the axle...I really should have researched these more before I bought one.

If it doesn't come out easily just take a bfh and smack it a few times. Itl pop right out. Make sure you take some grease and put it in the splines for the next time it needs to come out

I found the axles on partsgeek.com also rockauto.com has them I believe, just make sure you're selecting the turbocharged option when picking out the axle at partsgeek there's also another site which is actually a dealer that sells parts online, I found that to be useful, just google oem mazdaparts , hope that helps

OEM axles are expensive, NAPA lists axles for 03 Proteges with manual trans, ABS and 'MPS2' suspension which should be the correct aftermarket replacements.

It could be the wheel bearing.

Wheel bearing making a clunking/loose suspension sound while driving/ over bumps?... Wouldn't I hear the wheel bearing as the wheel was spinning if it was bad? and feel a vibration in the steering wheel?

I've checked for anything loose under there and could not find anything. I have replaced the sway bar D bracket bushings, end links, and both outer tie rods. I am installing a passenger side lower control arm this weekend and we'll see if it was the ball joint/ bushings in the control arm. They look like they havent been touched and the car has 107K on it so even if it doesn't fix the current problem it wont hurt.
