On the way to work today, I was in 2nd gear at about 4500 rpm and bam . The noise was nasty. All of a suddenthe car would not move anymore. I thought for sure it was the clutch. Wrong. I got towed to the local shop and it turns out the axel snapped.WTF? Ive heard people on hear with clutch problems but axels.

Do you think mazda will replace it or is this something Im gonna have to pay for?
Are these the same axels as the regular protege?
And do they make stronger ones?
PLEASE HELP

i think they are stronger supposedly...what the hell do you have done to your car that you had enough power to snap the axle? when you describe your situation were you gunning it, driving normal, etc?

Wow, it takes quite a bit to snap an axle.

The MSP ones are 2mm thicker I believe than the regular Protege axles.

Should be fixed under warranty.

Good Luck

I wouldnt say gunning it but spirited driving yes. I took off in 1st gear shifted at about 4500 the same in second. But thats when it happened in second gear. I dont think there any stronger, its just a protege with a turbo right

just the basics. fmic, sri, exhaust, mbc. NOw its at a local shop should I have it towed to Mazda

oh boy, I wish you luck trying to get it fixed under warranty with those mods, but it shouldn't cost a whole lot, not like you blew your engine.

like what are we talking here 2 or 3 hundred or a 1k. whats your definition of not a whole lot

No. I had to use a Protege sedan axle for about a week as they ordered the correct MSP axle. They will fit but you'll throw a code. They're a bit larger, as mentioned.

I just brought up that site to give you an idea of what you're looking at. You may want to contact that company and see if you can get a MSP one made, however.

i wonder why you threw a code with the standard protege axle in. i thought they had the same spline so they should fit. wasnt the only different between the standard and the msp axles is that the msp were a "little" thicker (22mm to 24mm) so if you had different sized axles (msp one side and standard the other side)i could see it. but if you are running same sized axles you should be fine right?
