i was just letting you guys know of a site i found. its www.japanautodirect.com. everything is from japan, twin turbo supras, rx-7's, 300zx's etc. they even got raised up mini vans. thought it was cool, some nice rides on there. if anything happens to my msp, i'll be visiting these guys.

im sure there are ricers over in japan just like here. people slap type r on anything. lifted minivans are a big thing over there i guess. either way decent site for jdm vehicles.

um, no. the type r is a real car.

Mazda market 4 regular versions with 3 different power levels from the 13B. Firstly they're the Type-RB auto version. An auto with 255hp and a manual (Type-RBs) with 265hp. Next up the line is the Type-R with 280hp then the Type-RS also with 280 hp but getting the Bilsteins, the driving lamps, 4.3 Diff, 17" wheels and a few interior bits to boot. Naturally it's the Type-RS that is the most popular seller through the showroom floors. A limited edition RZ version was done back in 2001 and all 200 where sold within a couple of weeks.

and have you looked into what it takes to import some of these vehicles? some of them which are very similar to the ones sold in the US i believe the biggest thing is changing the glass, emissions equip and bumper to the US spec, and then have it pass an inspection. the ones that aren't sold in the US aren't allowed to be imported.

then you have to ask yourself: if what you're looking at is a supra, rx7 or 300zx, why bother going through that when the differences between the US and japanese versions are very small and can easily be overcome with some minor mods, saving yourself a ton of time, headache and money?

But if you live in Canada, as long as it's 15yrs or older, it's a lot easier to import and pass JDM vehicles.

im just letting you all know of a good site for jdm vehicles. i believe the ones they show are already in canada. they have a list of what they can get from japan. im sure its not that big of a pain to get one to drive legally on the us, you see skylines on the street, well i do occasionally.

Better brokers in the BC area are Tyee Imports as well as Terra2 Imports. Terra2 has a listing for a '99 S15 Silvia located and registered in Missouri.

FYI skylines are no longer legal to import in the US. they were for a time period by motorex and now only certain ones are (see below).

it IS that big of a pain to get any car not approved by the NHTSA titled and registered in the US. vehicles sold in other countries but not the US do not meet US:

-crash test standards
-emissions standards
-safety standards
-lighting standards

if it's not on the approved list you're not going to import it legally. there are ways to import illegally (i.e. an evo titled as a mirage) but 1) it's illegal, and 2) it's hard to get through customs (can be done but customs isn't supposed to allow complete road vehicles that are unapproved to come into the country)

Many Skylines were subsequently imported through Motorex. This lasted until late 2005, when the NHTSA became informed that not all 1990 through 1999 Skyline models would perform identically in crash testing. Motorex had submitted information for only the R33, and told the NHTSA that it was sufficient for all R32, R33, and R34 models[citation needed]. According the further review by the NHTSA, only 1996-1998 R33 models have been demonstrated as capable of being modified to meet the federal motor vehicle safety standards. After that, only these 1996-1998 models are eligible for importation. In March 2006, Motorex ceased all imports and Motorex principal Hiroaki "Hiro" Nanahoshi was arrested and held on $1 million bail on financial, kidnapping, and assault charges.[2][3]

some one had said something along the lines that if you register it as a "show car" its legal for shows, and thats it.. now yes your not legally allowed to drive showcars on the street due to modifications and such but people still do. i personally own a mini truck that is for shows, and i know it doesnt meet requirements for daily driving but is still driven occasionally. it is still registered as a regular truck but passes state "inspections". there are ways of getting around it.

that's true, you can bring in a vehicle for show/race purposes only. i believe it's still not super easy but can be done. as long as you're aware of and comfortable with the consequences of being caught (comfiscated and crushed vehicle, not sure of criminal penalties if any) then go for it. for me the crushing of the vehicle alone is enough to keep me from doing that, though if i was looking for a race vehicle i'd def consider importing

yea i agree crushing a vehicle that you put your heart into is way more hurtfull then a ticket. but a bad ass track car is worth it.

recieved this email from them the other day. been looking into getting another 240 and thought, "hey, why not just import one."

i've seen several skylines around my area. actually talked to one guy, this was almost two years ago. he told me f motorex and informed me of a website f4w.net. it's no longer up, but when it was up they were selling skylines, silvias and 300's among other random semi-exotics. from what i've read you can import certain vehicles to certain shops deemed suitable by the authorities that be, to change out the windshield and various other things to get them up to U.S. standards. i'm by no means an expert, but it certainly seems possible to import a skyline as long as you have the cash and the time. unforntunatly for me, i didn't see any silvias on the list of nissan vehicles suitable for import into the U.S., i digress. here is the e-mail.

Dear Valued Customer,

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that Japan Auto Direct now has a branch office located in the U.S.A.

Based in sunny Tampa, Florida, we will now be investigating possibility of importing JDM cars directly into the U.S. Florida is a major entry point for imported cars with 3 big ports and will be an ideal starting point for our investigations.

We are aware that any cars that are 25 years old are immediately eligible for import into the United States, however for newer JDM cars, the rules seem to be varied and we aim to clarify the rules for import and titling once and for all.

A few of these highly sought-after JDM cars can already be found in the States, but not on a large scale. We would like to change that and help make JDM cars more easily available to the general public.

We will have more answers in the coming months and will keep you informed about what we find so please stay tuned to the JAD Newsletter.

If you can supply any information that will assist, or have had any experience in importing JDM cars, we would be very happy to talk with you.

>From the hundreds of inquiries we have had from the US over the past year we understand that many of you want to import your own dream JDM car and within the next 3-6 months we hope to help you do this. Please tell us what you are interested in so we can get an idea about what types of cars we should be specifically investigating.

Your direct point of contact will be Jack Ratliff. His contact details are below. Call him or email him anytime.

thats awsome that there doing this, florida is a great spot to do it too. i didnt know cars 25 years and older were immediately eligible for import. i bet exporting to japan would be good money too, american cars are kinda rare over there i would imagine...

If you want a 240, then you'd want a JDM 180SX. Plus the S13 Silvia rear end looks like poo, unless you can get an S14, or S15. What I want is a 180SX with the 'Sileighy' front end conversion. Now that's a hot car!
