What's the difference between these two mounts?....besides $70!!

cp-e

AWR

I don't even know for sure if they are for the same location but I would like to know which one is better/stronger or any other info that anybody has.

Thanks in advance.

I believe there were some fit issues with the AWR (wrong size bushings?), but I think that has been resolved. Any vendor verify that?

Ive installed the awr mount. However i had problems installing it. The awr mount is flat on both ends of the bushing. Its not a problem on the engine side however on the bodyside the original mount sits in a cradle. For me, i was not able to get it in. I had to hack away some of the urethane to get it to fit. Perhaps some other people are able to.
If you look at the cpe one it is not flat and sort of "volcanoes" out to sit/fit in the cradle.

This of course is just my experience with it. I dont have access to a lift, just used jack stands. Perhaps i didnt have enough leverage. I was too tired by then fighting with it. Even when i did force it in, since it prys open the bodyside, the bolt would not go in (could only get one side in cuz couldnt align it)

So i said screw it and had to hack/cut the urethane to finally get it in.

So im not giving the product a bad rating. perhaps it was just me. So be warned.

Will give an update on how the drive/vibration is after a few days...

Oh ya, they are both for the same location. Some say that the urethane cant handle the heat, but its nowhere near the downpipe. And i cant see that kind of heat being transferred to it from the engine...

And the awr one is supposed to be stiffer than cpe. Negative may be too much shakin goin on for some.

It seems like the cp-e mount will have a weak point where it necks down between the two mounting points but I don't know how strong the material is so I'm just speculating. Does anybody have more info on this?

AWR says that they changed their design to make it fit and address the fitment issues they had before...

CP-E says that every type of urethane they used melted, so going by what they say the AWR bushings may melt. I have not heard of anyone having any heat problems with the AWR as of yet, however it is still pretty new. IT was this heat concern that made CP-E and I used high temp rubber for the bushings instead of the urethane.

But yeah the AWR mount is a race mount, not necessarily recommended for street driving.

so is it confirmed that these mount in the same place?
They look different...

I had the AWR mounts in my MP3. I had some serious heat in there from the turbo and everything on a hot day up here in Denver. They never had any issues.

I would figure the AWR mount for the 6 would be bale to handle the heat. But we'll see. AWR makes nice stuff and have a lot of experience with making parts for Mazda's. AWR built one of the first Protege race cars and I think they've done a 6 as well.

If there was a chance of it melting from heat I would not be worried about the mount I would be worried about the battery exploding. That is the amount of heat it would take to melt a motor mount.

There were people having problems with the rubber sliding off, but CP-E revised the design by adding dowels. I logged about 8K miles until I had to have CP-E rework the mount and place dowels in, which they did for free. I've logged about 10K miles with the latest CP-E mount and all is still well.

Check my thread for my impressions of the mount:

Do you have a picture of the stock mount??

These are various pics of the stock rear mount of the V6. The mounts may look different from those on the MS6, and the MS6 wishbone might be a bit longer but it's the same wishbone design overall. Also I think they formed the rubber differently, but it still has holes/slits in the rubber which I think act as vibration dampeners. The problem is that those are the areas where the rubber starts to tear off on cars that are driven....spiritedly. Jack your car up and take a look.

Ignore the CP-E poly prototype mount in this picture:
