After hitting up three dealerships in the area, not one of them was going to let me drive the RX-8. "All are spoken for...deposits have been made...they're all sold...we're not too keen on putting too many miles on this sucker..." All the typical excuses

So I'm out having a dent pulled from the pikamobile's drivers door (stupid employees...i'm gonna fire em all) and walk over to the Mazda side of the dealership. This particular dealer my friend's mom and sister works at, so long story short they sweetalked the sales manager into handing over the keys to their fully loaded six speed Velocity Red Mica :)

The car is just awesome. Everything about it says that Mazda did their homework on this vehicle. The idle of the renesis is markedly silent, but whats truly amazing is the absolute smoothness of the application of power to redline. Virtually untectable engine vibration, zero cabin shudder and super slick clutch engagement all around. Opening the engine's power up sounds like the onset of an F-16s jet engine - smooth machinelike efficiency all while sounding menacing and powerful. Handling was just as I hope it would be - the car is level, balanced and compsed unlike anything out there. Lane changes, corners, tight radius turnabouts are effected with ease, agility and speed. Plus, there is just no feeling like rear wheel drive. No matter how quick my turboed p5 is, it feels like I am being pulled - because I am (front wheel drive). The feel of this car under full throttle (9000 RPM!!!!) is one of being pushed. Remember the sheer insane joy of being shoved down a slippery slope on a sled by your older brother?! Yeah, stupid smile on your face fun :)

No, its not Viper quick, but its fast - pretty damn fast if you ask me. Cruising at 90 mph in third gear is just nutty s***. Easily a half second or full second faster to sixty than what I'm driving now, and easily as quick if not quicker than the SRT4 I drove. :)

Wouldn't pay $34,500 like they are asking...but man, it is really a nice car, a real quick and slick vehicle. Any bashing about dyno numbers, break in periods, etc - is unjustified. Drive it. Love it. End of story.

It is a great ride for the money. However, I still wasn't blown away when I test drove it. I still think the 350Z has overall better value for the money. Test drive a 350 and you will see what I'm talking about :)

I actually have ridden in the Infiniti equivalent and did not like it all that much, so I don't know how well I'd take to the Z. The styling looks too chiseled, unfinished to me almost. But hey, to each thier own!
