AWD Mazda Speed 3 on EBAY

The owner (most likely a DG owner/employee) came on here a few months ago and said he was selling it.. They sold a complete subframe with engine, tranny, struts, etc. on ebay for like 1500 bucks not too long ago, wish I saw that go down because I would have jumped on that in a heart beat.

Hope the company's head is still above water and this is just to make room.

Wow it's getting down to the wire too. If I had the money I'd max bid $32k.

For 32k you could buy and STI or EVO with a proven AWD system and a warranty. In theory a custom AWD MS3 sounds cool, but I think it would be more of a money pit than anything.

couldn't agree more^^ sure having awd is nice, but even racing the ms3, simple bolt on's to an STi or Evo would crush a speed3 and for the same price.

Whoever buys it should reverse engineer it and tell us how to make it work.

Sure, buy busted speed6, install tranny and remove gas tank. mock-up rear differential and build custom suspension and mounts around it. cut out spare tire area for fuel cell. Get custom driveshaft and axles made. Peace of cake... I am taking deposits of 30,000 for the kit.

F EVO and STI, I'd buy this car because I like everything about it, especially because of the AWD. If you said buy a used C6 or CL55 AMG than mabye I would have to reconsider.

EVO and STI aren't anywhere near as fun to drive as an MS3. I have driven them all- Evo X feels like a pig and the boost lag is so bad it is hard to drive normally. The EVO 9 MR I drove felt a lot better, but interior is still s*** compared to the MS3. STI feels wobbly and boring as well and doesn't have the crisp responsiveness that the MS3 has. I can't believe this car is about to sell for $25k- what a bargain.

lol, the Evo X doesnt feel like a pig. its handles way better than a MS3(no torque steer either). the Evo turns in way better, doesnt bounce around over bumps like the MS3 does and the steering is even better on the Evo than the MS3(MS3 has great steering feel). the turbo lag isnt that bad, and it actually makes power all the way to redline. the only time the MS3 is more fun to drive is when your going in a straight line.

im not s*** talking on the MS3. its a great car, but i have owned both cars in question and the Evo is alot nicer. it should be its quite a bit more money.

I test drove an Evo X GSR and I felt it was hard to move quickly without hitting boost. I would let the clutch out and it would creep and felt slow like turbo lag- or like a slow piggy. Also, it felt like it had a lot more body roll than the MS3, and the streering ratio although quicker, feels softer than MS3 in Evo X.

there is no way it has more body roll than the MS3. the engine seemed to gain some power after it broke in. with the clutch, im sure your just used to the MS3 clutch, which sucks. it seems like it would hold alot of power but the clutch feel is horrible. but then everyone has different opinions.

ill be honest and say from a roll the MS3 will beat a Evo X stock. the MS3 also has a very small aftermarket compare to the Evo X. while 350whp is easily made with minimal mods on the Evo. someone even dynoed a 4B11T at 681whp with stock internals and cams. i don't see the MS3 doing that anytime soon.

the MS3 is an amazing car for the price. but the Evo X is just a much better car

Well I hadn't driven an MS3 until after I drove the X GSR, and your probably right about just getting used to the way the clutch lets out on that car. My impression of the car is majorly based off my 20 min test drive, but I honestly was dissapointed in the entire feel of the car, especially haven driven an '06 MR.

I don't doubt a modded Evo X would be (better) around a track than most cars made; however to say its a better car all around- not in my personal opinion. I would rather drive an AWD MS3 for sure. I do really like STI's and Evos, but would always rather spend the extra dough modding an MS3. Imagine this- buying that awd ms3 for $25k and using the extra $5k you would save from buying an Evo, to get 350 whp out of the MS3. It wouldn't be like an 11sec Evo, but I bet It would be more fun.

May I ask- why did you go from an Evo X to a Speed3, if you thought the Evo was a better car? Better car is a hard statement to make- I used to own a Corvette C5, Jaguar XJR, and a Trans Am, all of which I loved dearly. None of them broke as much as my MS3, and all three got a lot more compliments and attention, but I couldn't say any of them are actually better than an MS3- just DIFFERENT.

Someone won! I wonder if it's anyone on here. I hope he takes some real performance videos of it in action. The videos DG put on youtube show nothing except one good launch.

The reason you would want a AWD MS3 compared to an STI or EVO is you would continue to pay 2/3 the insurance year after blissful year.

Also, some of us who can't afford those cars anyways live in snowy areas.....

That's only if your insurance company will turn a blind eye to the fact that the car has been hacked and re-fitted with irreplaceable custom fabbed parts and a relocated fuel tank.

Try being totally honest and upfront with them and I'd bet they'll turn you away and you'd be left with a car that you can't get insurance for.

good luck getting a cheaper rate with a race-car.... ya know, modded driveline, custom parts, fuel cell.... it's no longer a ms3.

Every insurance quote I've ever got for a mod goes like this: "give me a cost list of mod part." Then take value add to replace value of car adjust insurance slightly upwards accordingly. Does not affect the most expensive part of insurance, which is which car you actually drive (which they derive from crash statistics, etc...). If your insurance is giving you track car rates every time you add coil-overs or whatever you need new insurance.
