AVIC-D3 Review!

Last i want to make sure i got the mod right. I move the yellow and black(mute)wire from its location to the empty slot directly above it on the radio plug then ground the yellow/blk(mute) and light green(parking brake) wires maybe to the stock ground wire on the harness(radio will be directly to chassie) so this means the yellow/blk wire really has nothing to do with the mute circuit anyways because its actually hitting a different pin on the radio?

well thanks for hearing me out any input will be greatly apreciated.

Yes, that is the correct mod, worked perfect for me. I just grounded the parking brake (light green) and the mute (yellow & black), after moving it up one pin, to the same spot. Haven't had a problem yet!

No theres a bypass. The quick of it is ground the parking brake wire, and in the wire harness there is a cellular mute wire...if you aren't going to use it, move that wire out of its pin, to the pin right below it and ground that wire with the parking brake ground. Viola....bypassed avic system.

Hey thug, great review and clean install. I am looking at installing this and a bit confused. To watch DVD's out of park, do I just need to ground the parking brake wire or do I have to ground the parking brake wire and move the celular mute wire. What is the purpose of the cellular mute wire? Did you have to do this or just something you wanted. Thanks.

Goto avic411.com and search for d3 bypass they have pics of it and it makes it very easy to understand. not many devices use the mute wire anymore and its just a convenient wire to use. you dont have to do this but if you dont you wont be able to do certain nav functions while moving and of course watch movies.

heres link to 411 i hope it works for you because it worked great for me and i love the d3

hey thug can you take a focused day time pic of the unit? I want to see how it sits with the dash kit and the radio surround bezel. Thanks.

I will do this tomorrow afternoon. It looks good though, I can tell you that much haha.

ive been looking at getting either this unit or the one above it, i was also wondering do you have to use anything off the stock head unit to mount this or is it all included in the metra kit? thanks

when all said in done how much did you put into it and did you do anything other than just a basic install?

also i have the d3 from ebay but it was scratched. anybody know of how i can get it replaced for even a couple bucks?

how's the D3 holding up? I'm still thinking about getting one...so tempting...I actually hope you give a bad review so I can save the 1000 bucks lol

Still loving it. If you are on the fence, just do it man. You can usually find it for under $900 at websites. I just paid mine off as I had a 6 months no interest no payment plan...so ouch to that haha.

^^^^ I am in the process of buying a pioneer, (done with the 6 cd changer and the makeshift navigation), will definitely add my input when I have it up and running. BTW SNike05.... long time no speak man!!!

Any word on how the modification to the rear bracket in the dashboard is for this head unit install? I'm picking mine up in a couple hours.

About to install this in the car tomorrow morning. ONE BIG Question though!

where are the vehicle speed sensor wire and reverse gear input wires.

EDIT: Found out its the Green w/ Red stripe wire at the ECU

Yeah...but you really don't need them if you don't wanna mess with hooking them up. I didn't. I had no intention of getting the reverse camera, and the GPS is a more accurate speed than what the speed sensor says.

how does this work in the dash of the protege? just buy a metra insert and place the pioneer in the metra insert and it clips into the dash or what?

Pretty much. But, i suggest that you make sure you have the post that screws into the back of the Pioneer. Without it, it sits at an angle.

Does this post come with the deck or is already on the car?

The reverse signal in the manual says its for accuracy of direction and such. You've had no problem without any of these 2 wires? Saves me a lot of trouble then.

Yeah, no trouble so far with either wire. The post is supposed to come with the Metra kit, tho mine didn't. When you buy the kit, make sure it's in there, or that the shop can provide you one.
