Average EGT Temps

well normally i get:

<400c just driving around slowly
400-500c normal driving
500-600c higher speeds (around 60 or so) and lower boost (like <5psi)
600-700c high speeds (over 70) and full boost at WOT

these arent consistant all the time, but generally what i get. to give you an idea 700c is 1292f.

thanks for always giving me good info

Also, remember it matters where your EGT probe is located. If its right in the manifold, it will be hotter than in the downpipe etc.

If installing in...

DOWNPIPE: 200-1600F - full 270 dial sweep
EXH MANIFOLD: 600-2200F - full 270 dial sweep

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR US: 300-1200C - full 270 dial sweep

no problem, and i forgot to mention my probe is right at the top of the downpipe, not in the manifold.

Great post.

The design of your manifold will also matter if your EGT probe is located there. PaulMP3 has his in his manifold right at the collector and due to the design he has the highest EGT readings of anyone (without starting a war, this indicates turbulence and poor flow at that point). He sees 900C, but for most of us that would be WAY too high. I don't see over 670C in the downpipe. Turf has been running below 750C (I believe) in the manifold. EGT kind of suck in my opinion, and isn't a good way to measure your engine. In fact EGT typically falls during detonation (while most believe it rises), but that is a topic for a whole different thread.

A bit late, My egt temps average between 700F-1450F. My Egt is tapped in the manifold.
I was concerned about my temps until a MSP Protege tapped an egt in the same place and would get to 1600F under heavy foot driving.
Hope this helps

Mine is right in the #4 manifold runner, little past midway I believe. Highest I see unless timing starts pulling is around 760C. Cruising on the highway at 70ish I see about 720C Idling with a warm engine I see around 550C

Yeah, thats another thing....timing....actual timing will make the temps vary.

try pulling a lot of timing, doesnt matter if the car is running PIG RICH, temps will go very high because the flame will be closer to the probe.

This is what Im playing with right now: timing vs. fuel and exhaust temp
