Available suspension bushings?

Hey everyone!!!!

I am building a Protege for road racing. Does anyone know if any of the suppliers are making polyurethane/delrin/anything non-metallic bushings for the suspension of the '01+ Protege? The rules say I can use anything non-metallic for the bushing material (so that cuts out spherical bearings). The rears don't look too bad to make out of Delrin but the front inners may be tough due to the angles it travels in. Mazdaspeed Motorsports just has the stiffer rubber bushings as far as I have seen. BTW, what do the stock MP3's have on the front inner for bushing material?

C'mon Guys Any Ideas?

So 38 people have read this post and no one has any ides? I guess we will need to attempt this project ourselves! If we are able to make the bushings is there any interest in these parts by the general Protege population for your cars? I would think these would be great for autocross, boulevard racers, or whatever.....

just browsing some back posts....

AWR makes a rear suspension set-up using heim joints and tubing. they also have available a front lower control arm modified with spherical bearings.

I almost bought the AWR links and control arms, but then on second thought that seemed to be over kill for street use, and $$$. They'd kick butt on the track though, and beat a bushing swap all to pieces.

Urethane stock is cheap enough and it's easy to machine, if you can even call it machineing. Shouldn't cost more than $50 to have them made custom. The only trick is in sellecting the right durmometer urethane.

I agree with Zeus.

However, Energy Suspension has some greasable bushings, at least for rear application.

Yeah, I have the Energy Suspension Greasable bushings on my rear sway bar. They needed a little bending and fabricating to fit properly, but they work great.

If your car isn't going to be your daily driver, you might try AWR racing as mentioned by others above.

Hey everyone.....
Thanks for your replies and suggestions. Yes, Tony's setup at AWR is nice but not legal for Grand Am Cup racing (no spherical bearings allowed). We are currently working with Mark at Kartboy to develop a set of urethane bushings for the Protege! If interested I can keep you up to date on the progress......
