AUX cable whine/noise...

So I have tried numerous different ways to only come out with the same result.
Whenever I have my ipod/iphone plugged into the AUX input there is a whining noise that seems to keep pace with the RPMs of the engine.

This only happens when Im charing the device at the same time. If I unplug the charger, the noise is gone.

I tried all of my hardware in another car and everything worked fine, so its been narrowed down to the mz5.

Anyone?

Oh man, I'm having trouble remembering what causes this problem... it's been a while since I messed with sound.

I assume you have an amp, w/ speakers. I wanna say your remote wire is too close to your audio cables. They're probably touching each other. Back in the day when I worked on sound, I would run the audio cables on one side of the car and the remote wire on the other.

Since it happens with the charger on, maybe your remote wire is touching some power wire also.

Hope this helps, cause like I said.. it's been a while.

Thanks for the attempt, but this is all factory mazda stereo im workin with. I havent upgraded anything in that dept. yet.

I remember this coming up before and it's not just with iPods, it's with any portable music device that is plugged into both aux-in and the power supply. Maybe it had to do with the ground?

As I recall, there is no cure for it. You can't have a music device plugged into both Aux-in and into the 12V outlet at same time.

Ugh.... That is just ridiculous. Why would Mazda do such a thing?

Anyone else have anything to say about this?

I had the same problem when connecting my Asus R2H to my Mazda5 radio. A clearly audible noise which varied with engine RPM. I tried a ground-loop-isolator as shown in http://indashpc.org/new/articles/Car_PC_Audio_How-To.html, but that didn't help at all. In the end I bought a Sony MBR-100 and now I'm streaming audio via bluetooth. The noise is gone and, as a bonus, the audio-wire is gone too...

Cheers! Stefan.

For some reason the way Mazda wired things up makes the system susceptible to ground loop alternator whine. Installing a ground loop isolator will eliminate the sound.... alternately you could just not charge while playing music. Oh and if you use one of the ipod integration kits that charges the ipod you won't have any noise. ;)

I just ordered this part https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) and the reviews say it works pretty well. I will post the results when it arrives next week.

In-line dual-element noise filter eliminates electrical interference that occurs when charging your iPod in a car whose electrical system is improperly grounded.

This makes me do the laughing thing. (first) just fix THE problem, don't find a fix FOR the problem. LOL!

Peace!(rei)

I tried the griffin cable mentioned in my earlier post and it works perfectly. It doesn't appear to degrade music quality even at higher volume.

+1

Got my griffin cable in the mail yesterday and it ELIMINATED the noise, COMPLETELY!

Thumbs up for that product.

So the whine can be eliminated. Thanks for posting back!

Yep. It sounds fantastic now.

Griffin states on the instructions that come with the cable that " this noise is common on several cars."

So its not just our m5s.
