AutoX Tires

yea, i just never thought to ask him, b/c yesterday was his first time autoxing, so he didn't know if he'd be in a ST class.

hopefully with my azenis and the strut bar( ) i'll be somewhat competitive. i need to TAKE a good line instead of just thinking about it :D i'll learn..i'm still a lil novice

first, you need to go out and do it a few times. the best mod you can make to your car is the driver.

as far as tires, figre out what class you want ot be in. i'm guessing STF is F Stock? i don't think the rear strut bar change is allowd, but in the end it's up to the people you are running w/...usually people are pretty lenient w/ novices. if you want to run STS, which is where the Protege would be w/ the usual mods (IE and intake would put you in STS), the Azenis are fine. Victoracers and Hoosiers are not. a lot of 2.5RSs in Philly run Azenis, and they are FAST. so i would say they will probably work fine for you...plus Azenis are pretty cheap.

Hit up ILP for the Azenis...ask for Faraz (he's also a Philly Sube AutoXer and pretty knowledgeable about the sport). We need to give ILP some Protege business besides just buying decals. ;)

ILP?

i'm running in STF, my front bar and the tires should make me competitive, since there are only a few pppl running STF. i came in 3rd last time, but my friend's 25RS was second and he wasn't supposed to be in that class with me.

opps forgot to add- STF is Street Touring/Street Tire F. not all regions have it. its b/c so many modded imports and stuff show up. it makes classes for everyone instead of having 200 STS ppl trying to run.

You all have some weird classing rules. At Nationals, I'd bet 99% of the people there were on R-rated tires. The STS/STX crowd almost all ran on Azenis. This is national championships.
For autocrossing, if you are running an ST class, use Azenis. If you can run 15" rims, you should be able to get them for under $70 each tire. Just buy a second set of rims. 15 are cheap as hell! I wish I could have run them.
For stock classes, if you can run more than 2deg camber stock, which none of our cars can, use Hoosiers. If you can't run the camber that high, which we can't, use the Kuhmo Victoracers or Ecsta V700s. They rock.
Stock you should be in GS with an MP3 and I think HS with a P5. Modified slightly, such as CAI, Camber plates, High-flow cat, body kits, etc. would put you in STS. Add LSD and you move to STX. Do those mods on race tires and move to FSP.
SCCA Clasing should be really easy. I know some regions run weird classes like a street tire class, and other BS, but don't count on seeing that junk at divisional or national races.
Some local regions tend to cater to whiners that can't seem to deal with the already overdivided classes and add more to confuse things. To each his own, but I'm pretty sure the SCCA has a good reason for the classes they have.
Good luck and let me know if you have any Q's
