Autoweek compares a 5 Touring to a Chevy HHR ?!?!

Well, it does seem like a few (3 or so) years after introduction the magic 'S' word has appeared in Mazda's models. Perhaps in the 09MY we'll see the Mazdaspeed5 (burnout)

I'll be trading in my 5 in for the Mazdaspeed5 as soon as it arrives in showrooms :D

Thanks for clearing that up for me because I honestly thought the Cobalt was the new Cavalier...I didn't know that Chevy had designed an entirely new platform for the Cobalt...I apologize for speaking prematurely without knowing the difference...It's good to know that Chevy might be on the up and up with a new car in it's lineup...

I still say the 5 is a better car for the money out of the box...My biggest gripe was that the article seemed to kind of slam the 5 and only knocking the HHR's handling (yet quickly adding that comsumers can also get an optional suspension upgrade to help that)...

I guess I'm just used to getting more car for my money off the lot...

Funny though, Despite The "Delta Architecture" being an entirely new platform, GM still can't build a small car that is even acceptable in US govt crash tests. I'd had to see how th cobalt performs in European or Japanese tests!

Only 2 more days until I get my 5!!!

IIHS rated it Good in frontal crash and Acceptable on side impact when equiped with side airbags. NHTSA gave it at least 4/5 stars in all but one test (3/5 for side impact w/o side airbags). That being said, I'll shut up and stop playing devil's advocate... I myself can't wait to get out of my J-Body (ughdance)

Good luck with the 5 delivery! BTW, update your User Title... it's "T -2 days" not 5 (second)

Actually I found out that the Dealer has the car as of today, now I'm just waiting for the Dealer prep. So I might have it tomorrow night if I'm lucky!

Could you imagine how the cobalt would do in the euro tests. The 5 got a top score in the Euro tests which are done at a higher speed. Anyway enough GM bashing (I could go on for hours, they just don't seem to have a clue what the market wants )

We actually test drove the HHR before the 5 I liked the style of the HHR, but didn't like the driving position, control layout, and space. There isn't enough room in the back seat to put a car seat in the center and have an adult sit next to it.Generally the HHR just doesn't have the space that the 5 does!

I wanna call my dealer to see if there are any updates... I know there aren't, but it's so hard being in the dark over this! It's only been 2 1/2 weeks so I'll probably call on the 25th (one month since ordering) :)

haha, I used to work part time at a Chevy dealership and I remember prepping a Malibu and realized one rocker panel was painted red and the other one was the lower trim's black unpainted rocker panel! lol! Took the sales manager aside and mentioned to him. He was like(shocked). What an embarrasment to have to tell a customer that they need to order a new panel because the retards at the factory only got it half right! I don't think you'll have to worry about that with Mazda, though ;)

The HHR is an ugly ripoff of the ugly PT Cruiser. It shows no forward thinking from GM...exactly what one would expect. This thing is a small, retro, 5-seater wagon and bears absolutely no likeness to the Mazda5 in appearance, refinement or utility. To be compared to the 5 by "auto experts" is laughable.

Missing the 3rd row

I looked at the HHR, primarily because it was one of the few people haulers that offer a 4cyl and a 5 speed manual. What ultimately lead us to the M5 however is that 3rd row of seats. I think the HHR is missing a bet by not offering a 3rd row... the platform certainly can support it. It wouldn't be the first time that GM missed a bet, however...

And while I'm at it... why is GM so scared to make an honest to goodness station wagon? They seem to go to extremes to avoid the label. The HHR is nothing more than a Cobalt Wagon, but they classify it as an SUV. And then there's the Malibu MAXX... They call it an "extended sedan". Seriously... it's really a hatchback. God forbid they should stetch back the D pillar call it a wagon. As someone who grew up with an spent a lot of money sporting up a '72 malibu wagon (and couldn't you really call those early 70's A-body wagons the first "sport wagons"?), GM sure has run away from the platform it helped define... but I digress... Thank you Mazda for both the 5 and the 6 sport wagon!
