AutoMeter Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge - Where to connect?

Electronic Oil Pressure Sending Unit From Autometer. The mechanical one will hook up just like it except there is a small tube.

Okay. You can understand my confusion then as this is my Electronic Oil Pressure Sending Unit from Auto Meter.

yeah, mines a big ass electrical sender like Brian MP5T posted.

BTW Brian: thanks a million for that post with pics. That's not quite how I want mine, but...

EDIT: I just saw that original write up you did Brian; am I going about this completely wrong you guys? Check out my post #28 and kindly tell me if I'm going to "F" something up doing it this way. I want to make sure I haven't been given some bad info which may lead to zoom zoom boom.

Your way will work but there will be air in the line and it will bounce around.

My suggestion is to remove the stock senseo and replace it with the autometer one directly.

I have the oil pressure reading on the pillar, the idiot light never comes on because the sesnor is in the trash. The light is more of an "You're Too Late" rather than a "Hey you need to check this out in the next 3 Min or so"

I'm puzzled by this. Did you not branch off from the OEM port with a tee and a line to a remote mount for your sensor on one side and the turbo oil supply line on the other? Do you have air in your line? As far as bouncing around, my plan was to secure the sensor assembly somewhere on the firewall...

There is no air in my line as the oil is flowing to the turbo. The setup that was illustrated has a dead end, the oild would never get a chance to clear the air from the system. Air can be compressed easily, Oil not so the air would take be compressed and give a WAY FALSE reading.

Can you clarify what the brass coloured fitting is in this picture? I'm getting a bit confused here now. Is this the OEM sender port?

plan "B"

So if I do this, I can subsequently disregard my dummy light sender? Therefore, the main purpose of my setup would simply be to relocate the sender from the block.

Will this work in giving me accurate readings on my pressure guage?

Okay, I'm convinced. No OEM idiot light, no hose to gauge sender. This is going to be my set-up. I will cap the turbo oil supply hose connection for now until install time.

Done! Couldn't have done it without removing the Intake Manifold support bracket tho'. (At least with my tools!) Oh yeah, and for future reference, you need a 24mm wrench (which I didn't have, had to use a crescent wrench...beeotch) to remove the OEM sender, which by the way IS the one with the white plastic connector (see post 29).

Thanks BrianMP5T for all the help.
Good luck tallrd if you haven't already done yours!

Super Pleased it worked out!

To hell with the Steel line. Put the sensor directly in the hole...

I was contemplating this, and if my sensor was the same size as mspeedP5's it was already be done (much like his already is :) ). However, b/c I have that big ass honkin' one and I've read in various places that something that big hanging off the block isn't recommendated I'm affraid it will create undue stress on that point. Therefore, it's worth it to displace it from that location just to be safe (as long as pressure readings to the guage aren't affected).

So I understand, it shouldn't affect those readings, correct (you mentioned something about air in the line)?

Big... Stress. I think that the 1/16th of a pound sensor will not strain anything at all. It's IRON, it can take it...

Plug it directly and be done with it.

if s*** blows, can I send you the bill? (poke) ;)

Ok, I know that this post is old but hopefully someone will see it. I know that it is stupid to most people to want an oil pressure gauge without a turbo but my wife wont let me have a turbo right now due to my speeding habits and what not. I currently have a Volt Meter Gauge and an Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge installed and functioning normally. I like them, it just gives more to the interior. I have a 30PSI boost gauge on hand (got it for trade. Never been used : ) ) so if anyone is interested in it, let me know as I am willing to part with it.

I am actually posting because I was curious about installing an Electronic Oil Pressure Gauge. I have a mechanical one and was told that without a turbo I should use an Electronic one. What do I have to have and what do I need to do exactly to get an Eletronic Oil Pressure Gauge installed in an N/A car? Here are my thoughts.

1. Eletronic Oil Pressure Gauge (Autometer)
2. Eletronic Sending Unit (Autometer)

Not sure what else I need or where the sending unit will go. It looks/sounds like I might have to drill a hole in the oil pan and screw the sending unit it. If so, what is the best/easiest way to do this so that there are no leaks? Thanks in advance!

I would get the Electronic Gauge from Autometer and remove the stock sensor, replace it with the Autometer and just hook the thing up as per the instructions. You will loose your oil pressure light, but replace it with an indicator..
