Automatic transmission not shifting gears automatically

Hi all,

I was about 30 minutes into my morning commute and everything was normal. Then, I stopped at a traffic light. When I tried to accelerate, my CX5 jerked twice and when I continued to accelerate, the gears wouldn't change. It appears that my gears stopped shifting automatically. I tried to accelerate to keep up with traffic. Good thing I was pretty much at work because going at 25 mph would get my RPM up to 4k. It seems to be stuck in first gear.

Is there something I can do to quickly fix this or do I have to go to a mechanic or the dealer to get it fixed?
Is is safe to drive my car to the dealer like this or does it need to be towed?

Please help! I am considering to go to the dealer during lunch.

Thanks.

OK, just to get it out of the way and to be sure, you didn't happen to accidentally bump it into manual mode did you? Did you try getting it to shift yourself using manual mode?

It was not in manual mode. I even tried to move it to manual mode to shift up and down manually. That didn't seem to do anything either.

Well then yeah, I'd definitely go to the dealer. You may find that it works after restarting though. Even if it never happens again, it's good to have on record at your dealer.

Call Mazda roadside assistance and have it towed to the dealer, that's what the warranty is for. You obviously know what the manual mode is so we can scratch operator error off the list. It definitely isn't good to be driving it like that and you can cause some serious damage.

Sounds like the transmission went into safe mode. You will have to take it to the stealership.

First, drive your car to see if it is still doing it.
If it is, then call up roadside assistance, and have it towed in for service.

However, if it shifts normally, then keep driving, and see if it happens again.
Just try not to obsess over it, like some people occasionally do.

BC.

Update.

I left my car at the dealer overnight so they could do a test drive under similar conditions in the morning.

In the end, they could not find anything wrong nor could they replicate the problem. They just told me that this is a documented issue and to come back if it happens again.
