Automatic Clutch Burning Smell

Hey all,

I recently bought a 2nd Gen CX-5 2.5L NA automatic and have been manually shifting my gears a lot!

Has anyone heard of best practices with these automatic transmission with manual shift? I come from driving MT and appreciate selecting my own gears.
Plus some down shifting for engine braking to help slow down the car.

Yesterday, when I was going uphill on the free way, when I downshifted, I could smell the clutch.

Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you could smell your transmission burning from outside the car while moving, that's not a good sign.

I would suggest driving around in D for a little while first to see how the transmission behaves, where it chooses to shift, etc.
