im not saying to resort to underhanded tatics to avoid tickets, ive been stopped many times and i face the music when im caught. i am just saying that lets all play within the rules.

ya i remember when they had Photo radar here a very years ago....got rid of them real quick when a couple of polititians got caught hehe

This reminds me of an episode of good ol' Seaquest DSV. Schneider's character (the captain) was riding his motorcycle a little too fast. His license plate (with a barcode on it identifying the vehicle and its owner) was scanned and a computerized voice came over his helmet speakers "you have just been caught speeding. 70 credits will be deducted from your account. have a good day." A chilling thought of things that could come...

if they were truely interested in making sure no one ever sped, they'd have cars that never went over the speed limit...like Justin said, this is merely a way to make MO MONEY with less work.

They don't need a picture of the driver because in some areas all the law requires is that the registered owner be responsible for the care and control of their vehicle (except for exceptional circumstances such as a stolen vehicle). Demerits are assigned to a particular driver, so without positive identification, no demerits can be given.

no, im for the red light, because it prevents people from running them, sure the person can get off if they have a good explanation, but speeding cameras, no, thats just bs, if they want to give me a speeding ticket, they r gonna have to work for it, not have some POS camera take my plate and give me a ticket... im srry my life is more complicated that that camera, if u want me to pay this ticket do it the old fashioned way, catch me...

That's as cut and dry as I can make that argument, as that is what people who say don't speed don't get a ticket view (black and white), but I think life is much more complicated that black and white. We're all car people, and what would you say to cars that drove themselves, and always went the speed limit because they were controlled by sensors in the car and on the street? That's basically what the feeling that "don't speed and the cameras are fine" is hoping for...(at least the way I see it) (shrug)

All you guys bitching about these cameras really need to stop. You speed, you deserve to be punished. I speed, and when I get caught, I would thank my lucky stars to have the cop say, "Give me $50 and we'll call it even". We get points here, even for a few miles over. No warnings. 4 points within a given amount of time and your license is gone. 12mph over the limit here is probably around $100(plus the point on your record).
Would you rather have a camera that sent you a $50 WARNING, or a cop doing a speed trap? Keep in mind, if you are speedding, you probably have somewhere you'd rather be than in your car. If you get pulled over, the cop is gonna keep you there and make you late. Be glad you got it in the mail...

Yep they have had them activated for some time now, just no enforcing them
They also have redlights that only turn red when speeding and force you to sit there for a LONG time. Run it and you will get a photo of your car running it.
Course just makes me want to speed faster to make up the lost time hehe doh.

If cars drove themselves, and did not have to worry about "driver error", speed limits would definately be increased. They are inforced because people get in more accidents at higher speeds, but most of the time it is a drivers fault. By the time these cars were put in effect, other hazards on the road wouldn't exist like people changing flats on the side of the road, running out of gas on the freeway...scott42 said:

Your hearing this from someone who has had a total of 14 speeding tickets from 1996-1998...so I don't speed ANYMORE!
I am with you guys. I am very FOR the Red Light Cameras. I understand there pupose 100%. Let me get this straight. I am not bitching about the measly $50. I will end up paying it.
A good frend of mine who was a D.C. cop told me the rules of catching speeders. The same rules apply for MD also.
1-The police car must be visable at all times
(I travel that road very frequently and I did not notice anything out of the ordinary)
2-They must clock you atleast a 1/4mile away to get an accurate reading.
(from the picture I did not see that. They are saying there range is from 0-160 feet
)This was not just some donut eating mofo clocking people on the side of the road. It's an electronic device mounted on the dash of an UNMARKED car. Like some have said they should work for there ticket. Not some machine to trust. Quote from back of the ticket:
"Deployment logs are completed and validated by certified, trained officers (for the mobile units) or technicians (jerkit) (for the fixed units) to ensure proper setup, testing, and operation of the unit during deployment period. When the radar control unit detects a vehicle in the beam traveling at or greater than the speed specified for that location, it instructs the camera control unit to take a photograph of the detected vehicle. The camera will not take a photograph if the system malfunctions or if there is more than once vehicle in the radar beam."
Now how does the public know this thing is really maintained properly?? How do you know it is calibrated correctly??? If you knew how the D.C. government works you could understand what I am saying. This just comes to show what our future is coming too.
