I'm going to my first event Saturday and needed to know if we can run under a 1/4 tank without getting fuel starvation.

Thanks,

Oh yeah... I've run with the tank so empty that we seriously wondered if we would make it back to the paddock. No fuel starvation issues.

Ditto.

Peace...(hippy)

I ran with the empty light on. :) Though I would not recommend that. I barely made it to the gas station afterward.

U will not have any problems. I auto x with about 1 gallon in the tank and it was fine.

I ran an event last october. The course was half autox, then the second half was on a small road course. 1/4 tank was causing starvation in one corner of the road course, even though it didn't feel like a high G corner to me. For a regular autox where you wont get consistent lateral loads, low fuel should be fine.

2 auto-x events in total for me, both times 1/4 or less in the tank. No problems at all. p.s. the MSP rocks, I'm really posting great times out there, my secret is drive agressively (enguard)

I found this great link before I went to my first event and it was very helpful, hope it helps you too http://www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm

Have fun and let us know how it went for you.

Thanks for the tips but I've actually been Autocrossing for over 10 years. It's just my first time competing with a MSP and was not familiar with it's fuel system. It was fun today but I sure need to get some R compounds.

Bullit: Do a whole autox season on street tires so you can learn at the limits of the tires and develop a smooth driving style. Then, next season, go for the R compounds. You won't believe how much quicker you'll be after you learn to be smooth.

MSP Pro,

This might be good advice for a beginner but as in my previous post I already stated I've been doing this for over 10 years so doing anymore events with the stock tires would not make a difference in how I drive the car and not make me any smoother. I've found over the years instructing at driving schools my students would be more motivated to continue with the sport once they actually purchased R-compound tires as it becomes much more enjoyable when you are not 4 seconds behind the next guy in your class. Besides regular street tires wear out much quicker as they chunk and they cost significantly more also.

Bullit.

Bullit,

I, too, have been autocrossing a number of years, nine in my case. However, my first year with my MSP I campaigned in Street Tire class on the OEM Bridgestones, and I'm glad I did. By midseason, my driving had improved to the point where I was only a couple of tenths behind the leading DS cars on R compounds. As for wearing out the stock tires, I put about 75 autox runs on those tires and they now have 22k miles on them and are not down to the wear bars yet. I estimate I'll get close to 30k miles on them overall. The OEM RE040 Bridgestones are pretty good tires if you keep the car aligned and rotate them front to rear every 5k miles. This year on R compounds (Victoracer V700s), I'm leading my DS class and PAX overall consistently in the top 10 out of 100+ drivers. Some of that is due to the MSP, and some of that is due to an improved driving style that gets and keeps the MSP very near the limits. That's why I recommend to everyone that they run a new car on street tires their first season, to really learn how the car reacts at the limits of adhesion.

MSP Pro, That is amazing you get so many runs on the RE040's. So many guys get about 20000 street miles and they are down to the tread markers. Up here we race at Boundary Bay which is concrete and as you probably know that just chunks tires if you have more than 6/32nds tread. What region do you run in Northwest? I used to campaign a lot down in Seattle with my ACR Neon. Maybe I'll come down to one of your events this year.
