Autocross Sep. 4 - Atlanta Motor Speedway

Is it legit if I come to spectate? I used to auto-x (it's been awhile) and am toying with the idea of getting back into it and would like to check it out, talk to folks, etc.

Why toy with the idea? Just come out and race! (cabpatch)

Anyway, spectators are always welcome; just sign the waver to get in.

Additionally, if I read things right, it seems as though it's also free to watch the club racing venues that will be occuring simultaneously that weekend (at ALMS).

Well, it appears that the Club Racing event has been cancelled for Labor Day weekend. Note, however, THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THE SOLO II AUTOCROSS!!

So who in all is showing up at the event (both spectating and racing)? It is a holiday weekend afterall. Who's down for a few drinks afterwards?(cheers2)

hopefully coming to watch, don't think I will be co-driving the red machine, money is tight, but I will pre-register just in case I can spring it.

I'd be up for it. My holiday weekend will be kinda sucky (except for the auto-x viewing), as hubby has to work.

We're there. I think my neighbors are coming, too!

We're in for morning session (STS) and anything after that depends on the baby and how much school work the wife has!

we'll have a nice protege showing. i'll be running in the first morning group. I hate waking up early....

are u running or watching? come out and run because i dont want to be the only noob out. i've been on several race tracks before, but i've never been on a course in which i can get lost on, such as figuring out if i go on the inside or outside of a cone. i dont think i'll get that lost, but i know im going to mess up if i go all out. also, scott what class are u signed up for. i want to run with some of u guys. it makes it more fun. i think in to2 it's only luke, and he is in a srt4.

if I run, I will be co driving Lukes car in FSP morning group

I'll be a spectator this time. I tend to be a bit reserved at new gatherings. But once I get to know you all, I'll jump right in on the next go round (money availability pending). :)

When I first started auto-x-ing, I would get such anxiety thinking that I was going to screw up the course, so I'd walk it and walk it and walk it and walk it. I used to do pretty good - other than killing some innocent cones in slaloms due to over-enthusiastic driving... (drive)

ok i think im going to register!! is there anyone that would be willing to let me borrow a pair of wheels/tires for the front? i cant possibly thrash my tires anymore or they will be at the tread bar! if a bribe of some protege parts will help i can do that too. i really wanna take the turboge out and see what she can do or cant do..haha

I've a pair of really crappy tires mounted to a set of Miata wheels that you are more than welcome to borrow. They probably have only 1500 miles on them. The wheels should fit your car no problem?

If you're interested, come by my place Friday night or Saturday and pick them up (since I can't really fit them in the Miata Sunday). I just need them back by Monday night since the turbo Miata will be sitting on jackstands while they're off. You've got my cell number, right?

Edit: Arg, I forgot you have an ES (5-lug).

ya sux huh..... oh well maybe someone else has some thay can let me borrow. i think im gonna get korey to get my car on a lift tomorrow and check everything out. i think i have an exhaust leaksomewhere after the dp (maybe at the flex pipe), my o2 sensor on the dp bung is loose AGAIN (whats new), i need to tighten the bolt on the rear mmount, check my sways, and possibly turn up the boost (maybe)... so i got alot to do b4 the 4th. i really wanna make this! SOMEONE HAS TO HAVE SOME TIRES!

Anybody else considering not doing this on account of the gas shortage/price of gas?

It's gonna be an 1.5-2 hr drive over there for me, I think, so I'm not as worried about the amount of gas used at the 'cross as I am about the full round-trip adventure! At $3.40 a gallon, it actually starts to become a serious issue!

******* President, causing a hurricane so his oil buddies make more money!

*minor thread jack* You might want to wear your helmet to the gas station in case anybody wants to start some crap - then you can just head-butt them in full-face protection and be none the worse for wear. (fight) Why the hell are people just about rioting in Georgia over gas??? Isn't panic-y overconsumption the cause of lack of fuel in the area, versus normal consumption? I just don't get it...

wow payed $45 for a full tank @$3.49/gal!! if i dont find tires then im definitly not going to run. gas is way to expensive to waist and then needing new tires on top of that IDK.....

Not I. I'll be sure to drive an hour there at an average of 55 MPH on premium, race 4 minutes on premium, then drive an hour back on premium averaging 55 MPH.

Sooooo, that said, I will hypothetically burn 10 gallons (not even that much). The cost of gas has increased roughly $0.80 a gallon (average in Alpharetta). All said, I will have spent an extra $8.00 this weekend.

If worst came to worst, I'll skip my double quarter pounder with cheese meal during lunch, hehe.
