Auto Trans - Only Park Works

Have a 1990 Protege LX, 4 speed auto with hold function. Seems only Park want to work. Drove it to a store went in, came back out, started, shift to R and the car just rolls like neutral. All gears other than park are effectively neutral. Park still locks the wheels. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, the shift linkage is moving.

ATF? or you might need to check your inhibitor switch also... if its broken..it wont engage to drive or any other gear...

if it wont move. Proba bly tourque converter si dead.

I did na auto trans in a car. Told me to leave it in there, we changed the bad tranny. Then it drove 15 miles and stopped.
After that if the car sat it woudl move a few feet. then nothing. only park worked.

But that sounds liek it might be it also!
