Does anyone make a chrome shift plate cover for the Auto/Sportmatic P5's that look similar to the Audi shift plates? I think a chrome shift plate would look cool.

agreed

u know thats agood question, that would help break up some of the silver and black on the interior, fi u hear of anything lemme know, good call (drinks)

No haven't heard anything about one, there was someone that one for the normal automatics I belive out of Diamond Cut plates. But it didn't look really good as it didn't sit flush with the rest of the area.

i say buy some chrome paint at autozone, just because i've never seen a chrome shift plate for the p5 before.

you'd definitely have something different if you did paint it, but i think it would look good

I really like the style of the Audi shift plate and I don't think chrome paint would give it the same look. I'm afraid it would look cheesy or too shiny.

Is the shift plate easy to remove?

shift plate

i cant imagine it being too hard, i know there are a couple of threads on here that deal with removing the center section, plus i know there is an online shop manual that i use alot, its more of a time consumer than a difficult task. yeah i agree with the paint idea, i know they sell chrome paint, just not sure how it would turn out. theres gotta be something somewhere or possibly a way to fabricate one.

It is pretty darn easy I think. I installed a hands-free cell phone kit a month or so ago. The center area where the shifter and cup holders are just pops out with a gentle pull. No screws or snap-tabs that I can remember, just popped out and back in.

Shift Plate

i got a number of a shop that does polishing and metal work, im gonna try and talk to this guy over the next week and see if hes got any ideas the shiftplate, ill post when i have some more info

The suround that goes around the shifter on an automatic is actually very hard to get off. You have to remove the handle first, which requires you to remove basically all of the center console. There is a how to i believe somewhere, but do not cut the wires like it said. If you follow them back they just unplug.

There is a place that crome plates plastic i found on the web. It will be $30 dollers to have it plated. Mine is currently on its way there now.

I have replaced my interior handles with crome also off of an LX. I figured with the crome daveb rings, crome pulls on the doors, the crome trim on my radio, the crome buttons on the shifter and E-brake handle, the shift plate cover would look great. Just little touches here and there.

And yes I got the idea also from my wifes S4.

I will post pics of it when it gets back, and then post the name of the place if the work is of good quality.

Can't wait to see it! (cool)

I have a friend whose father works at a machine shop from time to time. I know there were a few other oddities he wanted to try to make......maybe I'll run this by him as well.
