Auto Brake assist- I thought it broke

When I pressed the auto brake assist button, it blinked and wouldn't engage. I thought it broke. It turns out that it only works when the front seatbelt is buckled. And if it is on and the seatbelt is unbuckled, the light goes off and the parking brake light comes on.
