Audio Link iPod Connector for non-ipod

Ok this is what I'm going to get. I have a Rio Carbon Pearl mp3 player. I used to work at BestBuy back in the day on the GeekSquad (oh the mental horrors) and saw a lot of ipods returned for various problems. Anyway for those of you who decided not to conform (just kidding) here is the mp3 alternative for you

This product rocks BTW. I bought mine initially to plug in my iRiver MP3 as
well as my LG Chocolate phone but I have since plugged in a USB 4GB SanDisk Cruiser and its great. You can easily fit 594 songs in a 6 by 99
directory format.

I just bought and installed this. the songs from the USB sound a little distorted. And when I plug in a 12 powered device through the line in I get a lot of static as well. When I plug in a battery powered device (mp3 player) throught the line in, I get no distortion. I think the signal gets dirtied when using a 12 volt lighter adapter to power it. Any ideas on how to reduce this?
