ATX P5 Turbo Build by Richs970

Wow, that was alot. I'll be honest with you, I don't know anything about half the stuff you just rattled off. But to answer your question - yeah, I'm using my stock fuel rail, and stock injectors at the moment. I've read that at only 6psi I don't really need to go any larger.

One thing that I wish I did was seperate the work. In other words I wish I had done the Doc B pump/oil filter reloc./ext. PRV/oil pressure gauge seperately. That way I could diagnose any problems that may have occured while redoing the timing, without having all of the turbo stuff to make things more complicated. If your install plan allows you to easily do this, I'd recommend it.

GLW your build. Feel free to hit me up with any questions, although you sound like you'd be able to answer anything that I could, lol.

that turbo is goin to be putting down alot of power for the auto trans...possibly too much
you might as well do a manual swap and get PAR gears while your at it

Hey man got your C-clamp in yet? I'm only getting to 3.5psi and then I have to let off the gas, but I can hear it leaking from the bov flange

Rich buy the c-clamp tool at lowes. I can't remember what it is but it is worth it. Have a buddy hold the pipe while you're putting the c-clamp in place. That's the only way I got mine on really good.

Nah I haven't gotten it in yet. My car is in my garage in Jersey, and I work in NYC so I don't get to work on it until this weekend unfortunately. But my plan was to buy that tool, then use a nice big clamp to compress the BOV into the flange. I used this to install it originally (cause I had it sitting around my toolbox):

...so you can see that I didn't have the right angle "bit" or whatever it's called in order to get a good angle on the clip. So I took two small allen keys and put those in the channel lock pliers, but they were too long, so they were bending while I was trying to get the ring in and compress the o-ring at the same time. Ugh it was one of the more degrading moments of the install, lol.

I also had to wait to get in a new O-ring, which I ordered from here (in case you need one):

Thanks for the pointer. I should have done that to begin with, but I didn't realize how sensitive these BOV's were. I feel like I never read about anyone else having this problem.

Sorry I never responded to your posts before. I appreciate all the good info. I read through your build thread like 4 times, and it was one of the threads that really pushed me over the edge and decided to pull the trigger on this build.

Glad to see that everything came together. How does she drive? And I'm happy that my thread was part of why you decided to turbo it. (2thumbs)

She pulls nicely. I haven't gone WOT at all, like I've been told, but I can still get her up to 6-7psi and feel the power.
So I don't have any filter on my turbo inlet. I was going to hack up my old N/A CAI but with the stock fans it doesn't seem like anything's going to fit. Any suggestions?

Raining hard today. Afraid to drive with no filter on the turbo inlet.

So I went to tune the car yesterday and I had some issues. The Begi was easy to tune. But the AFRs are lean through boost. Yesterday the were 16.5-17 on my trial runs so I got in touch with Fish and he helped me get the voltage clamp wire properly. Went for a couple more trial runs today and the AFRs were noticeably better, but still up around 14.5 to 15.5. I think I'm going to solder the wire to make sure it's not just the connection quality. If I still have problems after that I'm gonna call flyin miata and see if they can help.

You can get an intake to fit in there but it is a b**** to get in. My recommendation is getting a slim fan.

Yeah, that what I'm going to do. 12" puller for the drivers side right? Anyone have a good site to buy slim fans from.

Also, anyone know the inside diameter of our upper radiator hose on the P5. Is it 1 1/16" (30mils)? I'm ordering a hose adapter for a water temp gauge sensor, and I'm not going to see the car for a few days...

Oh I forgot to ask. I had regular fuel in the car from before I started the build and I haven't refilled yet. Will putting in higher octane fuel change my AFR results?

Ordered a Mishimoto 12" slimfan and a turbo inlet intake from AlteredCustoms. I was going to chop up my N/A CAI but I decided I could probably just sell it.
Also ordered a water temp gauge to fill the last open spot in my dash.
Going to solder the connections for the o2 clamp this weekend and I'm hoping that that solves my lean issues.
Haven't see her in two weeks since I don't want to drive around without a turbo filter, so I'm itching to finish her up and clock some miles finally...

Nice Rich. Make sure you fill her up with some 93 octane asap. I wouldn't even go into boost until you do just for safety sake. Keep us updated and good luck.

Got some stuff done today. Installed the slim fans, and the turbo intake pipe and filter. Then installed the water temp gauge. Soldered the voltage clamp. Took her for a spin to fill up on the 93 octane juice, and I was still hitting 16-17 AFR on the way back.
(pissed)

The I realized water temp was pretty high (like 200). Got home. Coolant pouring out everywhere (pissed)(pissed). I think the ghetto rigged banjo bolt I used blew open and now my coolant system is fkd.

dam, sucks to hear it man
these cars tend to have alot of problems, but when they run right it makes it all worth it

oh and btw, what size did u buy for the hose adapter if you dont mind me asking?

Yeah thanks man. I can't wait for the day when everything clicks.

Anyways, hose adapter I got was 30mm. I think its the blue one if you get prosport. Fit well...
