Me, my hubby and some friends are contemplating moving to Vegas sometime within the next 6 months. Can anybody recommend some good areas to be checking out and job resources to investigate? Any tips or advice on anything would be very much welcome!!! Thanks!!! :D

me an my gerl might be moving up there in a year. maybe youll be nice na let me stop by an visit my billet grills -=)

Duuuuuude!!! We are getting a commune going, seriously there are about 5 people here who are trying to move out west. Why are you guys moving? And why to Vegas? Because, IMO, I am only seeing new and better things out there than here. :p And of course, you can see your grilles anytime!!! :D

Welcome!

Umm I would checkout our main paper here for classifieds to get an idea of the job market here. Here's the link www.reviewjournal.com Most common jobs here are mainly hotel and government. IT isn't strong here and mortgage companies seems to have a high turn over rate. Best sides of town to live would be way west (summerlin), northwest (ann road area), or south (green valley, seven hills) , southwest (highlands). It's very hot! in the summer and pretty chilly in the winter. Get used to the dry blow drying heat. Vegas is fun for anything at anytime since you can just about do anything here 24hrs a day. You'll get spoiled here very easy. Hope this helps! We try to put together some Mazda meets, come on out when you get here.:D

we can gamble an look at boobies. -=)
heh.. dont tell my gerl i said that.. -=)

I don't want to thread jack, but my girlfriend and I will be heading to Vegas for a week at the end of this year. We should be there from Dec. 28th to Jan. 2nd. Hopefully you guys will be able to meet up with us while we are there.
K, back to the thread:)

Gonna spend New Year's Eve on the Strip??? That place gets ******* crazy.

Neither of us have ever been there, and there is so much to do there I wouldn't know where to start. Bad news is, she's not 21, so that cuts down on the partying...

Just let me know if you're looking for places to go and party....as for your girl...that sucks man....you have a little over 2 months to get a fake. :D

Yeah...www.lvrj.com is a great resource. Also...www.lasvegasjobs.com and monster.com and hotjobs.com are good resources. What kind of jobs were you all looking for...maybe we could help.

Thanks for your help guys!!!

Snacks - I'm a dime a dozen admin assistant so I'm hoping it won't be too hard to get a receptionist/secretary job somewhere. My husband, however, is an auto tech specializing in Hondas (he only repairs them!!! :p), Acuras, Lexus, Toyota and I think some others but thats what his shop generally does. Is there more of a domestic or import market out there? B/c when we tried to move up north there were only FORDS!!! Ack! Thanks for your help!

Edit: Also, what are the DMV requirements like out there? Is it very strict? Tint laws? I'm wanting to get mine done at 35% I guess I'll do a search on that one.... Is it hard/expensive to register your car? Emissions laws, etc? Thanks again!

From what I've seen out here, there are a lot of admin assistants available...just check the LVRJ web site on Sundays. Temp agencies like Manpower are also good in place you in an admin position. We use them for our company to fill holes. There also seems to be several automotive postions open in Vegas too. You should check out the RJ's web site and look back to the past Sunday's classifieds, that should help you get a feel for the market out here. I would say that there is more of a import market out here, but not by much.

I don't know about the DMV laws out here, especially the emissions laws, since I got my P5 new. I got my tint 5% below the legal limit. It was either 35% or 25%. I forgot...sorry.

Vegas is definitely a change in scenery....its a fast city and it's one of those places where you either love it or hate it. I personally love it...being young and single helps a lot. Holla back if you need more help :)

Hey, Snacks thanks for all the info! Here's a bit of info you didn't know - dude I was born literally 8 days after you! :p I checked out your profile - I was born on May 11, 1978 in Denver, CO. TAURUS baby! :D Sorry, I get excited about these things. :p

Anyway, I've been checking out some message boards on the Review Journal's site and the people on there are GRIM when it comes to the job market. :wtf: I did a comparison and the unemployment rate down there is about 2% less than here. Are they all whack or is it really that hard to find a job in Vegas? The basic gist is: move with lots of money and expect to be out of work for at least 6 months!!! Again, :wtf:??? Help me out here people, I don't want any second thoughts here.

dont mean to thread jack but ill be goin out there next weekend 1024 to 1027 to visit my family, they just moved out there and after i graduate, i might follow...they live in the green valley area and hopefully i can meet with a couple of mazda vegas heads when im there...pm me and we'll see whats up....laters...

Tauruses rock...hell yeah...

I think the job market here is a lot better than a lot of other big cities. Vegas is still growing and new businesses are sprouting up everywhere. It really just depends on what you're looking for. I'm currently looking for a new marketing position, but those are really hard to come by. But from what I've seen admin positions are fairly plentiful. They have plans of building a new auto mall here and there are are already like 3 or 4 of them already. BUT....there is a lot of competition out here. My suggestion would be to start looking early. Start sending resumes out now to see how many bites you get. The casinos and hotels are also another good place to look, they always have positions open. Another good thing about living out here is the cost of living. You can get a nice 3 bedroom apartment for less than $900 bucks a month.

The job market is strong in Vegas. I have trouble finding people willing to work because money is so easy to get here. I really don't know the pay scales that are around the country because I have always worked in Vegas. I do admit that alot of the work is in the casino or service industry but this town is growing like crazy so its really like any large city on the west coast when it comes to pay and jobs. (plus the cost of living is pretty low compared to Cali).

:D First stop - Moonlight Bunny Ranch!!! J/k!!!
(don't tell my hubby I said that :p)

Actually, I'm looking forward to the shopping and massive amounts of sunshine! I can see boobies anytime, alls I have to do is look down my shirt. :D

Hey, would you guys say it's expensive to live out there? IMO it's expensive to live here in MD so I'm thinking it can't be THAT much different. Opinions?

i got man boobies.. do those count? -=)
im all about margarita by the yard.. uGh. -=)
