Hey daveB are you giving an estimate as to how much you had in mind if you do sell your antennas? I saw a pic of the ss one with protege5 and it looked great. Would be interested in buying one from you if you have started to sell any. Well providing they're not too high for my budget.

re: antenna

Thanks I'll give it some time first then try to email. Don't want to seem impatient.

Hey pancake75,

The Stainless steel antennas that I made were only going to be prototypes until I got some aluminum in. I just got some material in the other day and after the baseball game tonight I'm going in to run the first of the aluminum antennas. I haven't had any luck in getting a fair price on getting them powder coated so next I am going to check on hardcoated them or just black anodizing them. Then I will engrave the protege5 logo on them afterwards. So until I get a firm price on my out sourcing I will not have a price yet. I am guessing for the aluminum antennas with some sort of black finish and the engraving around $20 + shipping. As for the Stainless steel antennas I will make some more if there is any interest. I will give you all an update on reception once I get the alum. ones done.

daveb.... can you let us know how the reception is using the ss and aluminum antennas when you get a chance to test...?

See what did I tell you? Just have patience, although to have that is sometimes rare in my case. Thanks for the welcome cb. About your antennas daveb...I liked that first one you posted the picture of, looked really nice and your price estimate is reasonable. Guess I'll just have to wait and see how your aluminum ones turn out. Is that as sturdy a metal as ss? And what exactly is powder coating? Is that just a type of paint?

powder coating is a way to flawlessly paint!
the item is magnetized, then you powder it (like colored baby powder so to say)
then you bake it at a very high temp.
then viola you have powder coating!

I'll shut up now (thumb)

Thanks andyandchristie!

I could not have described power coating any better. But with that said, I went out today and got quotes for regular black anodizing and hard-coat anodizing. Not having any luck in the powder coating area. Best quote so far to do 40 antennas and 60 grille emblems is $500. I think that is highway robbery. Anyway, to answer pancake75 question: Is aluminum as sturdy as stainless steel, NO but for our antennas Alum. should be sturdy enough plus it is lighter. If I get them hard-coated they will be much harder than just aluminum.

Thanks guys for all the answers. Personally I thought the plain ss looked really cool. But can't wait to see how they look painted. Might like it better. And at least by getting one custom made by someone who owns a p5 I know ahead of time that it will fit and look nice. Was looking at your dash rings too Daveb, nice touch.

for a powder coating comparison

I had a piece of 60x24 grill mesh from wings west powdercoated along with the 4 pieces of mesh used as inserts in their evo style hood, and it was 35 bucks for all of it, ended up being 70 since they were aluminum and he said they had to bake aluminum twice for some reason
