Attention iPod / Mazda enthusiasts

Personally I gave up and just ordered a $120 (total) Blaupunkt head unit (+install kit) from Crutchfield. It was the cheapest thing I saw with and aux-in (dual RCAs on the rear). I tried a friend's iTrip for about 5 minutes and that was all it took for me to make the decision. The install wasn't very hard at all; the most difficult thing was getting the factory unit out. Still needs some cable shielding (I'm getting a little engine interference in there somewhere), but the audio quality is well worth it.

Yeah, I gave up too. I bought the JVC KD-SX990 (pictured above) with aux input on the face. (my buddy gave me a sweet deal - sold it to me as a discontinued item at cost)

It works pretty well and also has mp3 disc playback, which I haven't tried yet.

well, what we should be waiting for now is from Alpine who would be releasing soon an interface that works on the newer Ai-net headunits. You can now control your ipod through your headunits and shows everything like sonng title, etc. That would be cool. I think August or September is the release date.

I just checked out the Alpine website and the Ai-net Head units are pretty awsome. Then you just buy the iPod adaptor for $100 and it shows stuff just like the quote above states...plus.....it charges your iPod... Because in Charlotte, NC, my Griffin FM module barely comes in and the AUX in's on the back just play sound, having a head unit that allows you to navigate the iPod is best for me. check out the alpine site. www.alpine-usa.com

I want an iPod dock that replaces the cassete module.
Have the stereo and LCD interface with the iPod.

Me too! Thats all I want...why is that so much to ask?

Apparently yes, it is too much to ask! I am on the waiting list for the syflex AuxMod. Guess that will have to be good enough for us for now. It should be a lot better than my current fm modulator.

Got the AuxMod today and put it in. So far it works as advertised.

I installed one in my roommates Mazda3 wagon yesterday, nice stuff... almost makes me want to switch back to my stock head unit (ha!) so I could install one too.

Or spend like 20 dollars on the Ai-Net aux-in cable... yeah it won't control your iPod but is that too big of a deal? I have my 2nd gen 6GB iPod mini in the belkin tunedok which plugs into the lighter outlet and has a true line-out (it connects to the dock connector) right at the lighter outlet, and supports the mini on a flexible rod that puts it right next to my head unit. I don't know why Belkin doesn't make the tunedok for the full-sized iPods, it isn't like they are much heavier.

It's nice because it is the same sound quality as using the Alpine iPod interface, but it works with any music player. Also, I've heard bad things about the Alpine iPod interface (don't get me wrong, I LOVE Alpine) with it restricting you to just a few playlists, and limiting the number of songs per playlist and things like that.

Got my AuxMod in the mail today and installed it tonight. The sound is way better than with a fm modulator. The whole install took me less than 30 minutes. For $50 I don't think it can be beat.

The wait list took exactly 2 months from when I registered. They are still working on a advanced version that will give you headunit control, but the basic version works pretty good.

I took some pictures of my install that I can send to anyone who is interested.

Ok, i got my AuxMod a couple of weeks ago, it doesn't really sound like they have a waiting list anymore. I went to get my oil changed at the Mazda dealership, I have done this from day one so the guys know me. I asked if they could pull the head unit and they had no problem doing this for me.

I told them what I was doing and they were intrested because they had people ask for a solution before.

One little tip to get rid of buzz from engine, get this

Sendstation Systems PocketDock Line Out

they sell them on amazon, it allows you to still us the charge you got before, plug it right into the firewire port and also allows you to plug a headphone jack into the button, the sound is not amplified so you don't get the buzz if you plugged into the headphone jack on top. The only time I got a very small buzz was when I plugged the firewire charger into it. But if your just cruzing around town you won't need to keep your iPod charged.
