Attention all oil changers!

I used the Kwix oil filter. Good quality, and not very expensive. But I could see using the 626 filter because the OEM filters are teeny tiny :D

And I only have one free oil change at the dealer, and I dont know what kind oil they will put in there, hopefully something quality.
Matt

At my first dealer oil change (600 miles - break-in change), they used Quaker State Synthetic Blend. Not a bad oil for a free change. I'm curious why they even used a synth blend so early - I wanted to go to at least 1,500-2,000 miles before going blended or full - likely full 10-30 Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

The Mobil 1 MI-108 oil filter fits, but it's very expensive. I won't use it again.

Still waiting for Purolator to make the Pure One filter for our cars. Their web site still says it's "not released yet".

it really dont matter what u use as long u change ur oil and filter at the recommended 3000 mile interval you will be safe.

i use torco oils SR-5 with mazda oem oil filter. i change the oil every 10,000 miles and filter every 5,000 miles.

Note that the Frams come in different quality levels - the miod-level grey one is better than the orange one, and only costs about $4.50 as opposed to the OEM at $6.75 near me - and the OEM doesn't have that nice grippy surface that makes later oil changes so much easier.

MSP Pro thats why i posted earlier asking if the MSP and P5 filters were the same from the dealer cause if it is then you can use a PureOne filter for the P5. I do its a part #14622. I know in the book for the 02.5-03.5 P5s they listed another part number that hasnt been released yet, so i wonder what the difference is. The unreleased part number was also listed for the 02 P5 which is what i drive. Who knows maybe something stupid!?

I just used the Pureone this weekend on my oil change. I got it at Pepboys and they had the new catalog there with 2003 and it has it under Mazdaspeed Protege and I believe its 14612 I think. But it is definitely available

1500 MILES!!!! WHY?!?! Do you race everywhere you go? I mean, if you drive hard enough to warrant that kinda oil changing, the engines not gonna last long anyway. 1500 MILES!! That's like two or three times every month for me!

Well, since the jacking process has already begun, I'll ask the question I came here to ask. Yes, that's right, I planned the jack from the beggining. I'm just that evil. Anyway, here's the question. What exactly is the difference between 5w30, 10w30, 5w40, 0w50, and the rest? I know the first number is for the ambient outside temperatures you're driving in, but I'm at a total loss for what the second number designates. Anybody?

How? How can you possibly change the filter without changing the oil. Maybe its different in poroteges because the filter is waaaaaaaay up on the back of the engine, but I just didn't think it was possible to change the filter without draining the oil.
