It was shweet! during my first session is when I realized what I got myself into. And realized that before this, all I was doing was just operating my car. Now I can
drive it.
First the track:
I can see why VIR (Virginia International Raceway) is a top rated road course. track was in very good condition. Excellent turns, and nice straights. and had it been latter in the year, the landscaping would have been better.
My instructor:
Dan Martin. Great guy, and was able to communicate with me well. he knew the course, and was able to help me drive the line better. Very encoureging. I was even able to get a 'solo approved' sticker from him, even though his student in the higher group didn't
My car:
POS Miata
Ok, nothing to do with the Miata, but I had to cut 3 sessions short because my intake hose kept popping off. Finally I got enought duct tape to hold it on. i probably added 3-4lbs in tape. This problem will be corrected when I get my intercooler hoses, and BOV. The Yokohama ES100's held up very nicely. Once they were heated up, gripped great on the turns. The EBC Green Stuff pads held up very nicely, and did a great job of slowing the car down from 110-40 for turn 1. I did notice a couple of times the temp gauge was over the 1/2 mark, so I turned on the heater and I didn't see it climb up again.
I'm certainly going back in June for the full course. And in between there, I got 3 autocrosses, so hopefully, I can retain my skillz
