Asymmetrical tire inside-out?

So i have wheels with goodyear Eagle GTs installed on them, but due to excessive camber and maybe out of spec alignment, the inner tread (like 1.5" from the edge of tire) is worn excessively as compared to the rest of the tire. For example, as measured by my friendly goodyear tire center, the tread depth on outside of tire is 10/32, but inside only 5/32.

The Tires are asymmetrical, but not unidirectional. The question is, is it OK to mount the tires inside-out with respect to the sidewall markings? I then could get another 10kmi out of them. I live in HI and it rarely rains, so i am not worried about traction as i drive slow and smoothly.

Performance is not an issue, as this is a Mazda5 wagon and is used to drive in a straight line to drop the kids at school. I will ofcourse replace the tires with less aggressive type, as my main objective is quiet ride and long tire life.

So is it ok to flip the tires?

I did that once and it was only about a week later that I spun my miata and ended up parking it on the drivers door between two trees. It happened in the rain and I was driving quickly, but I know the road like the back of my hand and on any other day with any other tire situation I would have had infinitely more grip rain or not - heck I drove the road faster in a blizzard one year with no problems.

ahh.. interesting 1st hand experience. thank you for relaying your story.

Anyone done it successfully?

Of course you can probably get away with it but, since it's the school bus, it is incumbent on you as a parent to look after the safety and welfare of those inside it. You could toddle around on 4 space savers if you choose to but, I'd just replace the tires with some more touring oriented rubber and be satisfied with doing what you know is the right thing.

Asymmetric treads are designed to roll one way, whether they say they are directional or not. loading them the other way will definitely have bad effects, especially in the wet but elsewhere as well.

Ken...the school teacher...

I suppose if you choose to wear your underwear inside out to get another day out of them you could, but why would you....same concept goes for the tires...just my 2 cents.
