In the midst of an exhaustion induced brain fart, I forgot to zip the rear window (plastic) on the CSP car once I parked the it for the evening after last Sunday's auto-x. The day after (Monday) I proceeded to leave town for the next 4 days, all the while having left the window unzipped. The window rests in a cotten lined "sock" so that it isn't damaged when the top is down. During the course of the week, a bit of precipitation fell.

Skip forward to Friday....

I returned home to notice that I'd failed to zip the rear window. To my dismay, the week's precipitataion had impregnated the "sock" and apparently permeated into the window. The clear vinyl window is now a nice milky, opaque color. My ultimate question is, how the hell does a plastic window abosorb water? Furthermore, how do I fix this? Will it dry out? Do I have to replace the window?

Heh, I had a dream the other night about reluctantly forking over money for a hard top. Perhaps this is the precursor to that, hehe.

Google "plastic window polish" - many good products out there that actually work (I'm a brother of a Wrangler owner). The hard-top would fix your issue as well :D

I don't think vinyl will absorb water and I don't think what you described would have scratched the window that extensively. I'm no help, can't imagine what happened. Search over at www.miata.net and on the forum there.

All is well. I walked out the next morning and the window was clear again. Very strange....
