Are you kidding me?!? (Clutch install)

Torque specs?

(huh) Does anyone have the torque specs for the bolts of the bell housing, transmission case, flywheel and clutch? I'm taking my transmission apart this weekend and could really use them.

Flywheel = 71-76 ft*lbs
Clutch = 14-19 ft*lbs
Transmission case I couldn't find, but I did mine at 30 ft*lbs
Bell housing, you have about 6 different bolt sizes. Some are 65-86, some are 28-38 and some are 13-18 ft*lbs.

If you really want to torque them to existing "specs" you'd have to try to put the torqure wrench on them first and figure out they currently are by working your way up from lower torque settings. Before getting a torque wrench, I used to just try to tighten them up first to see how much force I had to put into it, then I would just "duplicate" that to the best of my abilities. But with a torque wrench you can obviously do that much better. . .that's why I bought one of those. :D

Hope that helps.

Now if only I had finished my write up with pictures, because I have it all broken down at least in my notes (because I'm doing another LSD some time this summer).

Are you opening up the transmission as well? That is a task in itself, but do-able with the right help. So, let me know if you end up needing help. . .that task is still fresh in my mind.

Thanks, I am opening up the transmission to install a Mazdaspeed LSD. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated!

And thanks for all the torque specs!

You have a PM. . .

What parts have you bought? You should have already bougth the two bearings and two nuts per the threads on the LSD. To save time, I recommend getting a new speedo gear (it costs $12.20) that way you don't have to pull the bearings on the stock differential and pull the speedo gear. Instead you can have all that stuff assembled before you even pull out the tranny and that way you can just open up the tranny, pull out the stock diff and drop in the new one. Make short work of it (so well worth $12.20 in time savings and if you had problems and break that gear, it will cost you a bunch of time). Just my $.02!

I just ordered the stuff off the other thread (from mazdaformance.com for prices cheaper than below):
(2) G5ro-27-350B Bearing $48.38
(1) MSP LSD - GS01-27-190A $569.86
(1) f520-17-628 Nut, lock
(1) F521-17-628a Nut, lock $36.59

Where would I go about getting a speedo gear from?

Thanks

These fuckers around here want $375-390 for labor to install a damn clutch!

How about i pay someone $100 to come here and help me install it at the post car craft center? Or $50 for a step by step detailed picture laden how-to?

**** im pissed.

those prices sound about right...
actually about 75 to 90 bucks over ...
It's not a little bit of work bro.

i dont think so...i found someone that knows how to install clutches he said he would help me if i bought him lunch that day, so if we do do it ill make a how-to.

I have NO IDEA how a heating plate would be useful when doing a flywheel (in fact, I'll go so far as to say I don't know what you mean by "heating plate" since I see no need for one).

If you can get the tranny out, there is nothing to the flywheel and clutch install. And getting the tranny out is the big deal. I highly recommend unbolting the lower arms in order to remove the axles. You can skip dealing with the ball joint (major pain in the ass) and still get the movement you need to get the axles out of the trans. Then take out a ton of bolts and drop the tranny. Clutch takes only a couple minutes once the tranny is out. Then you have all the fun of putting the tranny back in. :D That's the best part.
