These fuckers around here want $375-390 for labor to install a damn clutch!

How about i pay someone $100 to come here and help me install it at the post car craft center? Or $50 for a step by step detailed picture laden how-to?

**** im pissed.

matt, thats what anyone will charge. you have to have the right tools... ;)
you didnt know that off hand? i'd expect to pay around that.

Sounds about right, though. You gotta figure they are taking the whole tranny out of the car.

i saw a show about rally cars once and the guy had the clutch in his hands in less than 15sec (less than 10 i think) ..... is it that hard for real ?

Taking out the tranny is A LOT OF WORK! Especially if you are by yourself,
hope you have some help. I have done it before and i dont plan on doing it again.

Yes a lot of work, but I'll write you a step by step for $50. I was quoted over $400 and as such, I told them to go fly a kite!

But you are talking about taking the whole damn tranny out to do it (You don't have to, but by the time you get to the clutch there are only a few more things to do to get the whole tranny out). Might as well do your LSD at that time too. I'll write you a step by step for that too. . .woohoo. . .another $50!

Or come up to Chicago and I'll give you a hand! (For beer and pizza!)

i cant afford a LSD. but would your step by step have instructions?

tools are of no matter. i can pay 4 bucks an hour for a full lift bay with enough tools to dissassemble and rebuild the entire car.

That's a different situation. Racer cars are set up for quick part changes, whether side of the road in WRC or dragsters rebuilding engines between runs. Plus the crews know the car so well they could do it in the dark. Besides, if you dealer could do that where is their profit. That's why they all charge book rate. Book says some job takes 1.7 hours for however much money. If they get it done in .8 hours you probably still pay the full 1.7 hours worth. Just business.

i think a how to would be wonderful addition to the forums. :D i plan on putting in a new clutch in my car in a month or so. (so its ready for the turbo)

well maybe you and i could both pitch in some money and make some member take apart their car and put it back together with pics :(

i am doing this in two weeks

will provide pictures and detailed write up for $50

Its a pretty involved process, especially if you do not have an engine lift like I did not have. I had a friend help me for the first day, basically just help me get the tranny out. Its a pain in the ass, especially if your not too familiar with taking a tranny out. But you really should have another person help you or maybe too if you wanna get it done quickly. But that price sounds about right for someone else to do it. I could have helped you out with the write up but I dont have a detailed process in pics so that wouldnt work. But non the less I would suggest doing it because you get to know your car a bit better lol.

s*** you guys are lucky, most places I have called around to, are asking for 400-500$$. Got no choice since I don't know how to do it
