Are Weighted Shift Knobs Worth The Money?

I am probably getting a short shifter and want to know if the weighted knobs are really worth the 80-90 dollars they cost. It may be for you but consider: I am a full time college student with a part time job, only making about 80-120 a week. So that knob will almost be a weeks worth of pay. Food and Rent etc is already covered, I just have the job for money when I need it for those petty expenses that always arise and for my car. Now, I am just curious if its worth the money or if I should save the money for a better mod down the road.

Depends..

I really like them, makes shifting really smooth especially if you're turbo'd etc, or even if you like to drive your car hard.

If you're someone who's going to leave the car stock and use it for a daily driver etc it's really not a necessity so you could go with a cheaper light weight one.

It's all about the feel and in your case what you can afford...my advice if you really want a weighted shifter which is a good investment, just save $10-20 a month and then purchase one in a couple of months.

I had the mazdaspeed rx8 shift knob. It was pretty heavy, and if the dealership had gave me all the pieces for it I would have kept it. It made shifting with my b&m ss alot easier. Now I have the mazda6 shift knob, its pretty good too. Better than the crappy stock one for sure :D

yea i am probably gonna buy a mazda 3 knob that has been "re-weighted" with a steel insert and rethreaded.

I like the idea of just saving $10-15 a month and jus get it i na few months. maybe an end-of semester treat.
College life is expensive! That $80 will buy a textbook. Or, a couple of good dates after a long week, both more important investments right now IMHO.

IMO, this is the best weighted knob you can get (price and weight). I had it on my WRX with the Kartboy SS. Only problem is that it gets hot in the summer.
