That's what I'd like to know..

What makes the regular S-AFC not work? The open - loop program will ignore any input from a piggy?

cant control the A/F ratio thru the MAF without the unit being calibrated for amperage not voltage

I've got a pretty nice Apexi' hook up. I'll call my guy this afternoon and see what he says. I was under the impression that it wouldn't work. I'll find out though. It would be bad ass if it will work!:)

I called Apexi today. The response that I got was "Well,um it's possible but I'm not sure. You're going to have to find a shop that specializes in Protege's and see if they've ever used one." I also called the company that I get my Apexi stuff through and he said pretty much the same thing. That's a lot of cash to dump on something if it isn't goint to work. I may end up buying it and if it doesn't work I'll sell it on E-bay or something.

I think we're going to run into the same problem as we did with the old S-AFC. I spoke to the techs at APEXi a while back and asked what we would have to do to get it work. Aside from knowing where all the pins in our ECU are, we'd also need to know a what voltage/amps that our MAF sensor operates at. With any little bit of luck, it's the same voltage/amp as the Miata. According to the tech I spoke to, he claimed the best thing to do would be to use the Miata maps and tune from there on a dyno. I unfortunately do not have the money to throw into the S-AFC II nor do I have the money to try to have someone tune it on a dyno.

Folks at SPI PowerExcel in NJ who have knowledge on the S-AFC said it should work, S-AFC II should be more comptable but the real problem us protege guys have is the fact that our ECU don't take reading from the MAF sensor when it's on open loop.... meaning it will ignore signal and run it from it's base map for open loop...

You might be able to get the ECU to modify the open loop through modifying the close loop with the S-AFC if it works ... but last I heard our MAF sensor operate at 5-10V and the S-AFC is not designed to operate on that voltage level....

I've personally tried to hook up the S-AFC on my P5 and couldn't get it to work at all.... the car stalled... others claims it's because of the incompatability of the unit but I'm still not convinced.... but I postponded my S-AFC install until I get more mod to my engine....

On the other hand I am very interested at perfworks' piggy back which will make the S-AFC pointless anyway....

Also keep in mind that the S-AFC II costs $499 without install.....

It may retail for that much, but you can actually get it for $300-$315 shipped if you spend about 10 minutes shopping around on the net.

I would like to know who is selling at that price that's great! I've talked to SPI PowerExcel here in Jersey and they are selling their in stock S-AFC II for $499..... humm.... maybe he is trying to rip me off....

Be sure to check out groupbuycenter.com for some pretty decent deals. There is a deal on there right now from this shop down in Southern Cali called Turbo Evolution where I personally had purchased quite a bit of stuff for my Civic from. They're selling it for $315 shipped.here's the link SPI is good for people who don't really give a s*** about the price they pay, but for people who want a deal, it's best to shop around. I've seen a few on Ebay sell for less than $300

Any idea when your piggyback will be ready to roll? I'm very interested!
The piggy back was succesfully installed last week. The wiring was quite simple and we are just working out some load issues for fuel.
She controls timing wihtout any problem. We are working on the crank signal right now because it seems that sometimes she takes on the second try to start the car instead of the first. We found where the resistance is and will be correcting it on monday and tuesday. The new software we ordered will be out this week too so we can have it copywrited. Aftersome final tuning and dyno run this week we will start to fill orders. We allready have many people that have placed deposits on this forum and others. Just cant sell it yet till im protected with the software rights. Im sure you all understand.
