Thinking about this as a cheap mod.

Anyone out there with thier comments to share ?

Thanks

i have one. it doesnt really shorten the throw, just the actual height. also its an akward location for the shift knob, unless you use something as a spacer, or a mazdaspeed knob, youll end up with about 2-3 in of empty space between the boot and the knob

I won't go for it then

I have one, with a weighted knob off a Mazdaspeed6, and it's great. I'm using a stack of washers as a spacer and it looks clean.

As Liquid said, it doesn't change the angle your shifter sits at, but it does effectively shorten the throw some just due to the shorter length.

If you want a really short throw then get an aftermarket one, but I tried a TWM first gen one before and didn't like it. The TWM was stiff as hell for some reason and the short throw reduced the feel of the shifts a lot.

+1 Shortening the length does shorten the throw. Go aftermarket (you can always sell the shifter on a FS thread and put that money toward a TWM). I think the TWM 2nd gen are better shifters than 1st gen, and I love my Kartboy, but you can't get them anymore so watch the FS threads...

I have a short shifter for all Proteges 2002+. It's $90 shipped and its in stock ready to go. The shifter is track proven we used it this weekend at Nasa event in Michigan. The shifter was in Bill Brees Mazdaspeed Protege. Check out this link:

I love my B&M shifter... Nice location not too expensive and it's really done well over the 150,000 miles I've been using it. I had originally modded the stock shifter by removing the extension. It was too short and was uncomfortable.

That's your opinion. By all means you have that right... My shifter is the best bang for your buck. These shifters are made from the highest quality aluminum and hardened steel, the shorter the throw the quicker you go!

Of course it is, B&M did the R&D for you.
