Anyone want headers??

Yeah, we've known about those for a while now. I'll be the first to say that those aren't the cleanest looking things in the world. But hey, they do the job.

Neither of those links worked. I just dynoed my car with the shorty equal length header this morning. I picked up a little over 7 lb/ft of torque at the peak, lost nothing down low, and kept 7+ lbs past 5700RPM where the 2.0L likes to lose torque. Also, HP is up to 113.4 from a best of 108 previously and pulls past 6250 instead of falling on its nose around 5700. The HP was still climbing at 6250 but that's all the farther they got data for before shutting it down (their ignition pickup started to cut out). The ECU on the ES 2.0L sucks though. You guys with the MP3's have a lot better ignition advance. Anyone want to sell me their ECU cheap...

Traveler,
Very cool. How much do you think you'll be selling these for if you do? I wonder how much more a conventional 4-2-1 header will gain over a shorty-style that keeps the primary cat. At least the people with strict regulations can benefit from you. Keep up the good work :).

Actually from those pics they look pretty clean now and the price drop from 700 to 500 isn't bad either.

-Traveler, where did you get your headers? How much? Can you scan your dyno sheets for us?

-chdesign, what was it that you and spoolin each made...was that an intake manifold?

-Everyone: Maybe AWR would be interested in a group buy for the headers?

Don't have a scanner or a digital camera. I took some pictures of the header on the car yesterday but will have to get them developed and put on CD-ROM before I can upload and post them. I may have to just send them as e-mail attachments unless I can find a site to host them. I made my own since nobody else does right now. I may be offering them for sale if I can get my welder working better as I'm not happy enough with the appearance of the welds to sell them yet. Once I get that figured out, I'll probably be offering them for sale. I'm still trying to source parts less expensively as well as coatings for them so no price until I get that figured out.

Me and spoolin made exhaust headers but they were/are for turbo applications only.

I wonder if this is what the "rather unorthodox looking header" Racing Beat came up with looked like during their R&D for the MP3. Looks good Traveler. Fortunately, emissions isn't a concern for me in Madison, WI (yet) so I would probably go with a conventional 4-2-1. Looks like you got some decent gains though!

So if I were going turbo I'd need a header like you or spool, not traveler?

Yes. The turbo headers are going to be different as well as being made with thicker gauge steel. They have to handle higher thermal loading. Also they have to funnel into a smaller flange that will bolt up to a turbine inlet and allow for the proper positioning of a turbo.

Has anyone bought this header yet, if so how is it? Does it rust, any gains from it? Because Im thinking of buying it.

Thanks for the input
