Anyone using MegaSquirt?

If you guys want a source to buy a pre-assembled one, an electronics company I work with makes them for Bowling&Grippo. Let me know and I will grab a quote, maybe a GB thing???

www.rs-autosport.com does a pretty good job with their kits and so forth. DIYautotune.com is also reputable. If anyone's interested in an easier way to do this, check them out. My car is now running very well on megasquirt for fuel, with thoroughly freaking-out timing(computer has no MAF sensor). Shoot me a PM if you want some more info, I'm thoroughly impressed!

Will it work with our "smart" ecu? Will we need the voltage clamp?

Thanks.

depending on what you do with it, yes and no. It's designed to be run completely standalone, so it won't even care what the stock computer is doing. If you set it up to control fuel only(as I have done to start with), then the stock computer kinda freaks out on the timing map, b/c it doesn't have a MAF signal. The megasquirt runs off of a pressure signal(MAP) to tune, so it doesn't need a voltage clamp or anything like that. It likes you from the start, instead of hating you like the factory system:-)

weeeee!

update: car is running 18psi, 12:1 AFR solid, and whatever the stock ECU is throwing at me for timing( need to get that under control, parts are on the way), and OMG it hauls. I'll get home soon to do some more tuning and see what kinda power it's putting out. Butt dyno says about 300. we'll see. Got a video up, I'll host it and show yall.

stock engine will not hold for long at 18 psi on stock ecu timing...but props to getting a different system working

I don't think he has a stock motor.

yeah he isnt.

this may be a very very very very good alternative to the MPI. 325 for the thing with all sensors etc... no need for voltage clamp because it reads off map not maf!

Fuel only controllor (with capability of doing timing) 325 shipped vs haltech F10-900 dollars or so shipped.

This si very promising.

also,

why dont you just run the maf for timing only? Your fuel is going through MS anyways, so if you left your maf in and used a clamp (for fuel cut) your timing issues may go away!

-Bryan

im just gonna run the fm clamp and split second extra injector controller for fuel and it should be fine. We have a stock knock sensor (albeit not a J&S) but it will do its job if it sees knock..

Congrats on getting it working yeller. I would be cautious at those boost levels though when you don't even know what the stock ECU is doing to timing. Hopefully it is overly retarded if anything. Sounds like you are working on going to Megasquirt 'n Spark? Be careful with all that boost before you have your timing set right man. Good luck.

I've been researching megasquirt for a while now. Fascinating stuff. I don't have the balls to put it on my daily driver, but I have plans to use it on a project car once I have this sucka payed off.

ahh yes, but it's not stock timing. It doesn't have a MAF signal, so it at least feels extremely retarded. no detonation for sure, especially at a 10:1 fuel ratio and 7.6:1 compression. No worries.

took a little video this weekend of a simple backroads corner. looks cool, if nothing else. I'm working on hosting it, if anyone has a place to host it, I'd be very appreciate it. Then it'll go on up.

update: still running strong, finally fixed a small error, and got the closed loop programming working, for simply amazing fuel economy. I'm running 10psi around town, and 14 when i feel particularly zippy, the 18psi was just for a small bit of fun:-) it'll go there a lot when I get my ignition equipment in(came in the mail today!!).

as an answer to why i didn't temporarily hook up the MAF: That would have required plumbing it in. Remember I have custom hardpipes, so making two sets of the IC->TB pipe would have taken lots of time and even more $. So i just said screw it until the EDIS gets here. It's cool for the time being.

I desperately need to make a project page for this car, not to be conceited, but it's pretty damn cool to look at and follow. One of the other MSP guys at tech rode in it, and was like holy balls, i never realized this car would even make this kinda power! (dance) woohoo! onward!.....

dude, it would really easily work on a daily. THis car is driven stone-cold every damn day from my apt to the school parking lot, then for a daily backroads run every night. so it's really doing well. Plus, if you put it on a protege, I already have a program with hours and hours and hours of tuning for ya. it's really not that ballsy when you get into it.
